"Comodo Firewall is being initialized . . ."

I haven’t seen this problem & I’m also running avast HE. But, I’m also using W2k.

could it be a problem specific to windows xp sp2?

It could be… that’s why I ask the XP question earlier. At the time I was wondering if it could be related to the known XP systray problems.

what are those problems? and can this problem with CPF eventually be corrected? i didn’t know there were systray specific problems in xp.

At this point I couldn’t even say if it was an CPF, OS or 3rd-party software related issue. That would probably require Egemen’s input.

XP systray problems Unfortunately, there have been quite a few (do a search yourself).

I have Windows XP Sp2, Avast Home, and CPF and have not seen this problem at all.

Knock on wood that I never do.

lucky you!

still, no matter how annoying this little bug is, it sure isn’t enough to make me switch! “wonderful zone alarm” ■■■■■■■ up my system so badly i had to reformat!! at least the bugs are corrected in new versions of CPF. at least i hope so…

could it be a problem specific to windows xp sp2?

I doubt it.

As I stated in my first post COMODO firewall runs Ok on my XP Home but not on XP Pro machine.

Both computers have exactly the same security software on them, both patched up to date.

It’s a puzzler. ???

Luxor

eventually i hope a solution will present itself. the firewall has been pretty good about initializing today, so it must be one of those annoying intermittent bugs that comes and goes.

Not sure this will help with the solution.
I run CF on 2 machines with almost identical settings except.
One uses a router and connects to cable.
One uses no router and connects to adsl.
On both machines set to start bare o/s which is xp pro sp2 patches up to date.
When I say bare o/s I have most of the services turned off that don’t affect my use of the computer.
I could turn on all the things that I’ve turned off and see if something starting hangs up with cpf.
Example-windows time…etc,etc
All Iam saying is take a look at whats starting at boot up and maybe determine a common hang up program.
Oh ya both my machines boot up and run within 1 minute with all services and cpf initiallized.
Hope this is helpful.

thank u, that’s extremely helpful.

i am also thinking that i really need a ram upgrade. 256mb ram isn’t really enough, and it could be a factor in the problem. luckily, i haven’t had the initialization problem the entire day.

FWIW, the problem on my computer hasn’t recurred for several days. I don’t have a clue what I might have done to make it go away, nor do I know if it is gone permanently.

Jim

Downloaded and did a fresh install of CPF 2.3.6.81 especially after reading in the release history that

FIXED! CPF tray icon was showing wrong tooltip text

But alas it has made no difference this problem still persists on my XP Pro machine. :-[

i’m having the same problem again on my machine as well. running windows xp home edition sp2 IE7-RC1, Avast Home Edition. i am guessing it’s the same intermittent bug that was in the earlier versions. i wish they would get it fixed once and for all.

is their any kind of solution yet for the slow initialization problem? it may be minor, but it is also very annoying.

other than that comodo is a good firewall, alot better than the zone labs products. but i would very much like to see a fix for the slow initialization bug! funny thing is, even though it says “comodo firewall is initializing.”, it shows in the windows security center that the firewall has loaded! any kind of fix would be appreciated.

Hey philbee,

CPF does have a modular architecture and you are protected before the desktop appears. They are looking into the slow initializatin issue, but it seems to be machine specific. My Pc, for example, takes around 15 seconds longer to boot with CPF enabled, compared to without.

Please bear with them on this. They are aware of the issue. It’s just a matter of tracking it down.

Cheers,
Ewen

okeedokee. i’ll be patient and see what happens. i’m sure they’ll find a solution eventually.

today i noticed what i think is a new comodo file in my root directory, “boot.ini.comodofirewall”. could this be a fix for the long initialization bug? please let me know, since i haven’t noticed this particular file b4. thanks in advance.

Philbee see this post.

That is not the reason for this bug as I have deleted it off my system and the bug persists.

Luxor

thanks.
