Comodo fail firewall evaluation

I have evaluated Comodo 4.0.14842.828 for the past week and have soundly rejected this application as an acceptable firewall. Potential Comodo users should consider using a different firewall.

  1. Comodo frequently fails to remember settings over a system boot. I found myself repeatedly re-entering permissions for trusted applications, or specifying that they not be run in the Comodo “sandbox”.

  2. The user interface for changing permissions known to be incorrect is arcane.

  3. A trusted start-up application was repeated forced into the Comodo “sandbox”, where the execution restrictions caused it to fail in initialization. In failing, the trusted application erased its database. By itself this is not the fault of Comodo. However, the trusted application was removed from the Comodo “sandbox”, where it executed perfectly–perfectly until the time when Comodo, without warning, put the application back into the “sandbox”. The same initialization errors occurred and the database was erased once again.

Look elsewhere for an acceptable personal firewall.

Hi Portablepadlock
I would have to completely disagree with your comments as i have been using this software since version 4 came out and I do not have the issues you talk about. If you go to your firewall settings you can set the alert settings to low or very low. Mine is set to low and the only alert I get (and that is very rare now) is when I am playing around with new software that needs to register online. Also before making a statement like “look elsewhere for a firewall” perhaps you could ask some questions from this forum. There are plenty of people willing to give you the assistance you need. Also perhaps look at the lastest results from Matousec and you will see that the CIS kicked some major players in the ■■■. In my books it is and extremely good piece of software which no doubt has cost many many thousands of dollars to build and we get it for free. Ask the questions and enjoy the product.

So instead of seeing if these “issues” are inherent in the product or just your case you would rather post a “Comodo sucks” thread?

Your “evaluation” didn’t involve any testing? No data? No feedback other than to say you don’t like it?

“The user interface for changing permissions known to be incorrect…”

Where is it “known” to be anything of the sort?

One possible reason is that you may have been launching applications from removable media. Apps launched from removable media are NEVER considered trusted and cannot have permanent rules.
