Comodo CESM 2.0 and Windows 8

Can’t get it to work, Windows blue screens, have to download stand alone client and install.

Try to upgrade to the latest ESM version 2.1 using the following installation package:
http://download.comodo.com/cesm/download/setups/CESM_Setup_2.1.50820.1_Full.exe
CIS version 5.10 which comes with ESM 2.1 it’s not compatible with Win 8.
ESM 2.1 will not extend support for Win 8.
The only CIS version which is compatible with Win 8 si CIS 5.12 .

You can download CIS version 5.12 using this link: http://download.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/1000/standalone/cispremium_installer.exe
Now you need to perform a “pull” deployment for the ESM Agent by accessing More → Manage This Endpoint option in CIS main console on the endpoint.
You just need to enter the Server’s IP address (Comodo Help).
This will pull the ESM Agent’s offline installer off the ESM server and install it.
You should now be able to see the endpoint as compliant in the ESM Console.

However ESM 2.1 wasn’t tested with CIS 5.12 and some features like the reporting of the progress of the scan or av update won’t work as they should.

Please reply if you have any other questions or issues.

you sir are an amazing man ;D

I did the 2.1 upgrade… No problem
I downloaded and installed the 5.12 version … no problem
I went to more->manage endpoint typed in ip address and received failed to install
a. I checked to insure IP address and port were correct

Any ideas?

Also, can I just name 5.12 the exact same as 5.10 in the comodo program files and “fool it” into using it?

Hi Tec,

Out of idle curiosity, what happens if you drop the offline installer onto the affected machine and run the agent installer manually?

Regards,
Michel.

The msi files of Cis which are deployed with ESM 2.1 are located in C:\Program Files or Program Files(x86)\Comodo\Endpoint Security Manager\Packages or C:\Program Files or Program Files\Comodo\Endpoint Security Manager\Packages . Here you will find 2 msi packages, one is the CIS x86 version and one is the x64 version, by default version 5.10 .

The msi packages for cis 5.12 can be downloaded from the following link:
32 bit (i586)
http://download.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/1000/xml_binaries/cis/cis_setup_x86.msi

64 bit (x86_64)
http://download.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/1000/xml_binaries/cis/cis_setup_x64.msi

Please make sure that any other version of CIS is uninstalled first.

The packages can be renamed, put the new downloaded packages with the name of the old packages and use them only for win 8 to deploy CIS 5.12 through ESM 2.1 and then put back all as default(the old/default msi files; CIS version 5.10 )

Ok, I preformed all of the steps laid out in the post above and was finally able to install CIS from the console without my windows 8 machine crashing. When the computer finished rebooting however it never checked in with the management server and is just saying “Disconnected”. It fortunately thinks that it is remotely managed but doesn’t connect to the server again to finish the installation. The server is now just stuck on “Reboot required”.

Any ideas?

Hello MrBurritoMan,

Please restart the endpoint with win 8 , login and open the services window (Stra->run->services.msc) and search for Comodo ESM Agent -click on stop and start , check again in ESM if it’s reporting properly.Close the cis deployment window and check in CESM console - Computer-View if the endpoint is reporting properly.
