I can’t install Comodo Backup as well as a couple of other Comodo products. I get the following error. This only happens on Comodo products. I installed Paragon Backup and it installed and worked just fine. Why is Comodo trying to access protected files or services. How do I install this or do I just ignore that error. I am using it on Windows XP. I also have a Windows 7 machine and it installed fine with not problem.
Could not write value ImagePath to key
\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CBUfs.
Verify that you have sufficient access to
that key, or contact your support personnel.
the \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CBUfs registry key is used by Comodo Backup and it is always created when you first install it.
Maybe there is a firewall blocking access to that key, or maybe it is already used by another program.
Well, I checked the registry and there is no such key named \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CBUfs. I turned off my BitDefender firewall and had the same result as before. I even change the permissions in the registry and still it does not work. Any ideas?
Well, if COMODO Backup creates that registry key, then maybe you had a broken install where the key was written but the installer was not able to finish successfully? Then again, when running the installer, it should just overwrite that key and re-create it if it exists before the install. Maybe the key did not show up in the search because it is corrupted or such? Did you try running a registry cleaner to check for unused/corrupted registry keys?
Do you have any other COMODO products installed? Any programs that might be conflicting with the install? Check your event viewer for any errors. Also, you can try running the “sfc/scannow” and “chkdsk” commands in the command prompt to check that all windows components are operating properly. Other than that, I have no other ideas why it would be saying that if the key doesn’t exist. :-\
