Comodo Backup 2 Wishlist (Rev. 1)

I would like to have the option selecting tapes for destination. Yes, I am still using a (small) streamer with 320GB possible size (VXA-3/scsi). Tapes got the advantage of to be removed and stored completely anywhere else - in a vault or so. Even Windowsbackup is able to deal with tapedrives…

mh, maybe there is that option already, but i did not found it yet?

If the tape is visible with a drive letter in Windows Explorer, you can type in the full path in the “Save as” dialog box.

Ok, so it was my own fault for not reading the manual ahead of time…

I chose to restore a single file from a folder full of files and selected “clean restore” rather than “Append”. The result was that all the files in the folder were deleted and the single file I chose was recreated in that folder.

This is exactly the way it is supposed to behave, but please have mercy on us poor fools who don’t memorize the user manual before stupidly clicking on buttons!

A popup reminder about the consequences of using Clean Restore if that choice is made would be great.

Like some other users mentionned: a bootable CD to restore without Windows!!! ;D

 1. I think, need some stand alone utilit for unpak *.cbu files in manual mode.

for example:
uncbu e file.cbu, file2.cbu
unpak all files from 2 files, if file separate in archive use special option -s.

uncbu e file.cbu -f filename
find and unpack 1 file from file.cbu

uncbu -c file.cbu
check errors in file

uncbu -r file.cbu
repair cbu

=====================================
2. Change error messages to human language, please. (Change error codes to string messages)

Waiting Patiently for a version with incremental support! Great Product guys!

I am a member of ubcd4win.com and boot-land.net, it would be great if we could get the product integrated as a plugin for PE and we could just use existing Boot Environments and utilize Comodo Backup, I would be willing to beta test for you guys.

What I would like to see: Hardware Independent Restore or sometimes called Universal Restore
Basically it’s like this: For example if my laptop dies and I backed up the primary partition (C:) to an external location, I can restore that backup to a desktop (on a blank drive or new partition) & the boot disk that restores the backup should be able to compensate for the hardware changes. I know Acronis does this.

 1. Make a way to see if there is an error with the backup at the moment when the error occur (see my problems there : https://forums.comodo.com/help-cb/backup-process-failed-with-code-4-t44830.0.html ) and not when clicking on abort after having waited a very long time.

 2. Make a Comodo backup environnement that could be writing on a CD (iso file) or on a USB key. That way we could have a bootable media and the possibility to make a bare metal restoration ;D

 3. Make the restoration CD or USB key easy to made from inside the comodo backup GUI (king of like what Paragon drive backup do 88)

 4. At step 3, after choosing where to make the backup, a name of the backup should be automaticaly assigne to the backup with the possibility of changing it

 5. A detail description of error instead of code number. Knowing that I have an error code 4 doesn’t help me to have any idea what could be the problem…

Good idea.

THIS IS REALLY NECESSARY: the Destination drive/partition needs to be specified also by SIZE and by NAME of the pertition and markedby comodo when restarting. Because both driveletter and drive number can alter when restarting with external usb drives loaded in a different order (drivenumber) and working under dos (driveletters)!!!

See also bugreport, where my 1.5TBsource drive with important data, was OVERWRITTEN by comodo on restore after restart, (the aimed destination drive: untouched)

and YES i’m sure i chose the right drive BEFORE restarting (it’s not even possible to choose the same drive as the source file or IS IT?

hello. i would like to see both the “Source” and “Destination” paths in the Schedule window.
Right now, only the “Path” (destination) is shown.

For example, I have one folder where all my scheduled backups will go “S:\Backups”
It’s quite confusing to see this in the Scheduled backups path:
Path
Type
Etc.

S:\Backups
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
Manual
Manual
Daily
Weekly
Monthly
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.
It would be more helpful to see the meaningful data such as “Source” and “Destination”:
Source
Destination
Type
Etc.

F:\Music
E:\Important
C:\Stuff
C:\Some Files
D:\Documents
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
S:\Backups
Manual
Manual
Daily
Weekly
Monthly
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.
By the way, thanks for a WONDERFUL development team, and some really great applications!

Hi

How about the ability to only keep a certain number of backups? eg keep last 7 backups of a Daily backup will keep 7 days worth. This will help save disk space on the backup device

This can be easily done by using the “No_of_revisions” macro.

You can set how many revisions of a backup are kept. When the limit has been reached, the first backup in the series is then overwritten. If you are taking daily backups, setting a revision number of 7 gives you a weeks worth to fall back on.

Hope this helps,

I think that one of the more missed things in Comodo Backup is the incremental backup, it’s really needed.

Incremental backups are scheduled for the next release. This was due fro release end April but it has slipped by about a month - hopefully end May.

Hello everybody - as this is my very first post on this forum.

Well, I’ve just started my experience with CB, but here is my wish list:

 1. Allow run CB as non-priviliged user (maybe without option with backup/restore of MBR, system files, etc)
 2. Log file - I would like to see a possibility to have different log file for each shedulded backup (I’ve tasks for backing up MBR once a week, registry once a day, emails once a day, and so on.
 3. Log file - I would like to see an option to append new informations to log rather then suspending file with new one.
 4. E-mail notfication - different headers for sucess and failure messages
 5. I’d like to see an option to save backup jobs so I can re-run them once or twice in future (not schedulding them)
 6. Add Macro Date 3 (YYYY.MM.DD). Also when I add macros to have scheme like this: “filename|YEAR||MONTH|DAY|.cbu”, I get file “filename_2010.5.10” instead of “filename_2010.05.10” - It’s all about sorting backup files.
 7. Incremental backup…
 8. Bootable media…

Thanks a lot for COMODO software Grin

M.K.

Hi Michael

These options will be available in the next release.
The rest will be introduced in later releases.

Thanks for the feedback

This can be done with the current version. Create a backup as if you wanted it to be a scheduled backup, but select MANUAL as the scheduled interval. When you want to run it, go to the SCHEDULE tab, select the job and then click RUN IT NOW.

Hope this helps,

You can export the backup to script, and run it by double click.

Thanks.

Apologies to the OP.

Note to self : Read ALL the words before replying, dummy!!
