Hello- I 'm using using Comodo Anrivirus (free version) on a Windows 7 system. It will no longer update or do scans. When I click either I get an error message that says “Update failed. Error 0x80004002. No such interface supported.” Looks like it last updated itself a couple of weeks ago. So, I have no antivirus running now, I believe.
I also run Iolo System Mechanic and it has a warning saying no antivirus detected.
I have tried:
Downloading Comodo Antivirs again twice now - nothein changes.
Uninstall Comodo Antivirus, but it is not on the “remove programs” list in the control panel
I looked up the manual uninstall directions, however I can’t seem to get to the CAV directory to make that work either.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much for any advice!
PS: I did see the post by egeman on windows 7 64 crashes but I am not sure if it applies to this- I am not sure if I have 32 or 64. If that is the issue here, -how do I copy the file exactly to the right place? I have not done much with program files and don’t want to ■■■■■ up the system)
Please follow the instuctions here to download a virus database as you cannot update from a Virus Signature Database Version 0 it needs to be 1 or higher for a update to succeed.
Your database must have been corrupted at some point for it to be 0
It might be possible you have a correct bases.cav in the CIS repair folder.
Dennis2- thank you as well for your help. I followed the link and downloaded the 5.5 version. I unzipped it with 7zip and got a file with one document inside that began with END_USER…cav. I the renamed the document bases.cav, then I rebooted in safe mode and renamed the original file bases.cav located in C: program files/comodo/comodo internet security/scanners to bases.old. I then copied the newly downloaded and renamed bases.cav to this location. I rebooted in normal mode and tried to do a comodo antivirus update and got the same error message as before. I also just tried running a scan- got the same message as well.
Any other ideas on how to fix comodo or at last resort to remove it so I can get something on here to protect my computer? I did download spybot so I could manually scan, but still want to have antivirus. Thank you!
If I recall correctly the “Update failed. Error 0x80004002. No such interface supported” points to a problem with the network connection.
Comodo is currently working on their servers and you may be experiencing a glitch caused by this; I informed one of the admins to see if your case is a possible glitch.
Thanks so much-- I appreciate it and will watch and see if that fixes itself.

As Denis2 stated- it looks like I have a “version 0”. Is that to do with the network connection you mentioned or do I need to fix that somehow? Not too savvy about those things.
EricJH, I did follow the directions but was unsuccessful.

Any idea on what I did wrong or how to do it correctly?
Hi Jewelergirl,
If I have read this correctly you are saying Comodo is not in the programs/features list in the control panel, if this is correct it sounds like a partial uninstall fail to me. If that is the situation try this unofficial uninstaller tool for comodo products then try a fresh install.
Available for download here.
Also I noticed you said you didn’t know if you had 32/64bit, go to control panel, system and it will be noted there under system, system type.
Kind regards.
