What you did:
I ran an online game called Ragnarok Online, a private server, logged in to play.
What actually happened or you actually saw:
I always got disconnected just after I have logged in and map has loaded up.
What you expected to happen or see:
No disconnection, play.
How you tried to fix it & what happened:
I tried various CIS5 firewall configurations, D+ configurations, but nothing. Even disabled them all, but still nothing. But, just after I uninstalled CIS5 and reinstalled CIS4, Ragnarok Online worked fine again.
CIS version 5.0.163652.1142, AV database version 6232 & configuration used (see attachment).
Doesn’t matter, since no setting changed the fact that CIS5 didn’t allow Ragnarok Online client to connect with the server properly. I tried all settings, even Disable!
Microsoft Windows XP Pro (version 2002), SP3, x86, n/a, Administrator.
I’d start with the firewall under this circumstance. If we narrow it down to that, it may be a corrupt imported setting we are dealing with, and one of the more expert firewall mods may be able to help.
Do you know that CIS5 has a special feature called Game Mode ?
Have you tried that ?
And what is a “private server” ?! Is that a method of using the game illegaly or a fair option offered by the game ?! Is this game f2p ?
I see on the EU site that on september 30th the “euRO” server is closing and since sept. 15th they’ve opened another server called “euRO Odin” and they advise players to move to that server !
Maybe the cause of your disconnecting could be due to players leaving that euRO server and moving to the other one ! If so, then the network created between the remaining pc’s is weak and you have trouble connecting !
I don’t play this game but I never had trouble connecting to online games, the only troubles I’ve had were related to some incompatibilities between the game’s anticheating software and CIS !
Also make sure that your ISP isn’t doing some maintenance work to the network ! That’s when connection troubles also occur !
By “disabling” I meant setting the module Level to Disabled.
BUT, there was one thing that I didn’t try and that I think is the real cause - after I Deactivated Defense+, I can play the game again without problems! And I don’t think it’s a corrupted imported setting, as I installed a fresh copy over CIS4 and made a new configuration there, I did not import it.
Ahh,
excluding the game from shellcode injections detection worked this time.
I wonder why D+ doesn’t get fully Disabled, when setting its Level to Disabled, why must I still manually add everything? Making the program fully trusted under D+ didn’t work before. Shouldn’t “Detect shellcode injections” be separated from D+ then, since it won’t be turned off, when Disabling D+ and doesn’t even work when making a file Trusted under D+?
