CIS4: Failed to update the virus signature database.

Thank you for the prompt replies!

As I said in my post, I read all the FAQ’s and past topics, but to no avail. The database does update to 4290 when I copy the bases.cav, but the update module still fails to retrieve updates (stops at 5% and says it cold not update).

Bulgroz, I have Spyware Doc and Avast! on the side. Recently, I have been unhappy with Avast’s performance against malware, thus I wanted to replace it and tryout COMODO’s AV (it’s more sensitive, which I like).

i got similar problem after i altered internet explorer settings since comodo suit relies on internet explorere for updates to get worry free updates i just restored default settings of internet explorer restarted the system and the updates where zippy
hope others try this method and save comodo from a big headache :stuck_out_tongue:
thanks
enjoy updating
akhil

recently i started testing and using comodo free verion of internet security
the updates and all went fine but when i modified internet explorer setting for some security reason the firewall and av components failed tp update
the thing where all set to default computer restarted and the updates started again
though this may be a security risk ut solves problem well
i think this helps all
thank you

Akhil, I went ahead and tried that, but it still didn’t work. :frowning:

Personally from what I have observed, I think my netgear wireless adapter may be interfering with the connection. I’ve had a lot of trouble with it in the past due to it making changes to my windows files. All my other computers use different brands to connect to the internet, and COMODO updates fine on them. This is still undisclosed, for I’m not 100% sure this is the problem.

Just installed COMODO on another one of my old VAIO laptops. Updates ran smoothly. Really wish I knew why this issue is picking on my system. ???

sonic try resetting every thing on internet explorer to default inclusing privacy setting and advanced also
then restart
i have no problem after that

I’ve been using CIS 3.14.130099.587 and everything was great. I manually hit update today and at 90% I get an error report that says ooops you just found a bug in Comodo internet security and it needs to close. At that point the computer is locked. Can’t open firefox or e-mail. Reboot and everything works great Then try to manually update and it stops at 90% again and need to reboot. The virus signature data version is 4315. Thanks

Just tried CIS 3.14.******.587 on XP P. updated manually from 4315 to 4317 no problems.

Thanks Dennis, I tried two hours later and it worked OK. Since nothing had changed her there must have been a problem on the Comodo end. Thanks for letting me know you were OK.

Akil, I did reset everything in IE to defaults, and it wasn’t very much since I use Firefox (most was already at default).

Greetings.

Long time Comodo user, first time I’ve had a problem that I couldn’t solve without help. I was running a previous version of CIS (3.x) and kept getting hit with a Trojware.Win32.Rootkit.Agent detection, which I would delete or quarantine, only to have it return every time I rebooted (hence Rootkit). During this time, and since updating to CIS 4.0.135239.742, I have been unable to update and furthermore and being seemingly blocked from any comodo related website. I cannot access http://www.comodo.com, nor http://forums.comodo.com from the infected machine, although I can access these sites without issue from another machine on the same connection (hence this post). Can anyone please help me?

Many thanks,

  • LordTherapy.

Never mind, downloaded the latest updates manually from here https://forums.comodo.com/anti_virus_faq/where_can_i_download_the_latest_full_av_database-t47164.0.html and was able to sort it out. Bit of a worry though when I was blocked from the forums etc., though.

Glad it is working now odd place to fail at 90% the file would have been download by then.

Usual fail is 5% or 51%

Dennis

That is a problem that deserves its own topic. Please follow What to do if you’re infected - eXPerience Rev.3 and start a topic in the Virus/Malware Removal Assistance board.

I’ve manually update the database virus at ver 4311 but still the automatic update fails. Any idea?

I’m still having this problem. I uninstalled a few of my anti-virus programs to see if any were interfering, however COMODO still fails to update. Any more help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

i solved the question!

  1. uninstall cis and reboot
  2. delete the comodo folder (if present)
  3. go to control panel - intenet option - advanced - and click to reset all the internet explorer option (you have to do that also if you use firefox, like me)
  4. reboot
  5. reinstall cis
  6. then update!

Try to do this steps and tell me!

Cheers

Thanks for replying, dylanit2003.

I’m afraid the update still doesn’t work after doing what you specified. Now, it fails immediately rather than showing 5% and stopping.

I’m currently re-downloading the latest .CAV database. If the update still doesn’t work after that, I’ll edit my post and let you guys know then.

EDIT: Grah, still doesn’t work. It’s now gone back to stopping at 5%.

Hi Sonic Gal,

Can you please try the following?

Click on Start, Run, and type

regedit

there and press ENTER after that.

Now click the tree open to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Internet Settings

And verify if the following is present GlobalUserOffline and if so if it’s set to 1

COMODO product just updated, however the virus database still could not connect.

Ronny,

I found the registry key and set it to one and rebooted. COMODO AV still doesn’t update.

It should be set to 0, can you please revert that change?

I think then it’s time to do a packet capture, are you familiar with Wireshark or Smartsniff?
