CIS 6 not properly starting on Vista Home Premium x64

Hello,

I have almost the same issue with Windows Vista Home Premium (fully updated). I custom-installed CIS2013 (minus Comodo Dragon and GeekBuddy; all else default) twice. On each occasion, the installation went through without a glitch - virus definitions were updated and the system scanned immediately after installation by default. However, the next time I started Windows, the Comodo CIS icon in the Task bar disappeared and I receive an error message stating “Comodo Security Agent Could not be started”. However, the Windows Security Centre informs me that CIS is up and running but needs to be updated. Any help will be gratefully received.

Thank you for your reply and explanation, DrHaze. SA Jack, please forgive me if I appear to usurp your thread; this is not my intention. The reason for my posts in this thread is because of the similarity of our predicaments.

DrHaze, my system configuration is as follows:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit fully updated
Previous versions of CIS were removed completely prior to the installation of CIS 2013
There is no other firewall/anti-virus software installed (The in-built Windows security is de-activated.)

As I mentioned in my previous post, I installed CIS2013 using the default settings, except that I did not install GeekBuddy or Comodo Dragon. I am the only user of this computer, so I do not believe there is any issue regarding running it as Admin or User, though I could be wrong. Yet, the task bar icon disappears when I restart the system. Still, Windows informs me that CIS is running, though I get two messages: one states it is out of date and the other that the Comodo Security Agent could not be started.

While acknowledging your explanation above, I must ask, is there a solution to this issue?

My thanks in advance for your time.

Lane

Hello Lane. Split your two posts from the other topic as your problem greatly differs.

Try the following. Make sure that left overs of previously installed security programs are no longer around by removing possible left overs with cleanup tools of those programs. Leftovers can cause all sort of strange results A list of such tools can be found here: ESET Knowledgebase .

Let Comodo run Diagnostics and see if it finds error and is able to fix them or not.

Hello Eric,

Thank you, firstly, for taking the time to create a new thread based upon my original post. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your time in doing so.

Thank you also for the suggestions you proffered. I followed those fully. I used Vista’s Control Panel to fully uninstall the previous installation of CIS 6.0. I next ran a couple of disk and registry cleaners (I know, I know). This done I manually deleted the folders left behind by CIS 6.0 on my C drive from the previous installation. I then re-installed 6.0 and, lo and behold, it went through the update/scan process and has stayed put on my task bar after I shut down and restarted the system a couple of times.

So once again, please accept my thanks for your help, time and effort; my appreciation is the greater given the time of year.

From one very satisfied user, Merry Christmas and a safe and rewarding New Year.

Regards,
Lane

It is part of what we do to make things go smoothly.

Many happy returns (hopefully this phrase can be used in this context).
