The attempt to connect to the Comodo servers was last night. I can confirm the servers were down as I too was unable to connect at that time.
I am also watching this thread with great interest. My CIS AV is failing to update although it did upgrade to 3.9.95478 VSDV 1017. It’s been doing this quite consistently in the past on several PC’s of various versions and for some time. I don’t think the odd bit of server downtime covers it.
I’ve check the registry, firewall settings for CIS and various user and local access rights all of which are OK. I have remote non-technical users and a complete uninstall and reinstall is not an option due to the very real possibility of being blocked out by the new firewall in its default state.
Other gripes like the quarantining of safe files I can live with but as a previous user states AVs are only as good as their updates and they’ve got to get that right if they want to be taken seriously.

Well, I recently fixed one problem with an update to CIS 3.9.x.509 (thanks, EricJH, for the assist). Now I’m encountering a similar problem to the one described here.
There’s just one small difference - the virus database update doesn’t fail per se, it merely hangs at 30% done. No errors about the update not completing properly, the updater doesn’t crash, it just sits there at 30% done as if it doesn’t know what to do.
Now, I was watching the traffic pretty closely in the “Active Connections” window (hey, I’m curious about what my computer does when it’s connected to the internet) and the only process that started when the update began was cmdagent.exe - which, I assume, is the Comodo update manager.
However, the update’s been stuck at 30% for the past hour or so, and cmdagent.exe has received about 4.6 megabytes since the update started. However, when it first hit 30% complete, it had only received 800 kilobytes of data.
So, unless the update server is throwing a bunch of random garbage at the update client, the update should be long done . . . right?
the first update is big, so it takes time. Also what internet connection are you using, are you on dial up?
Hi Ranger,
It is known bug? with the updater shooting to 30% quickly then seemingly hanging.
If you just did the .509 upgrade the first db update is Large and with the progress stuck at 30%,
many think it has stalled. Patience is Key.
You have found the active connection window yourself, so you can see the connection still active even though it may be a trickle.
The progress bar/status % needs work fer sure.

Aha. Thanks for that, Bad Frogger.
This does, however, raise a question in my mind: if I shut down the computer, will Comodo resume the update from where it left off?
'Cause if it does, that is - as some of my friends would say it - “chainsawesome”.
(I ask because I’ve got to get ready for work soon - and as for “chainsawesome”, it’s like awesome . . . but with chainsaws on )
Now that. I’m not sure of.
I would have to bet NO, it doesn’t resume where it left off.

Sorry not quite Chainsawawesome
Ah well.
Could be worse, I suppose . . . I could be having cmdagent.exe crashing on me every time I log into the account I do all of my security work on
That would suck, straight up. Defo worse things in life.
@The fast and knowledgeable languy99,
I like the new Avatar.

Thanks :-TU
There is no resume supported for the download of the AV database IIRC,
Ok I’m having the same problem. I did notise one thing i haven’t seen any one els say or talke mabout yet… That is At 30% it does stop showing any progress, But my DU meter is peged out and showing download traffic. I have AT&T DSL hightest speed that offer, And it showes download @ 68.3KP/s I just had my old HD crash and reinstalled XP pro. Befor the crash CSI was working and updating just fine. I installed same v 3.8, Now it wont. I Love COMODO and have been using it for year. I’m not going to let this stop me from using it now. Just wish i could get it to work right…From what i could tell , That hasn’t happened yet. I’ll keep checking back …
Thank You! COMODO

.
You cannot get AV database updates anymore for 3.8 and 3.9 due to two changes in the AV updater mechanism. Please update to the latest 3.10: Free Firewall - Download the Best Firewall Protection and Anti-Virus Scan Software from Comodo .
It is not recommended to import a previous v3.8 or older configurations due to a change in the way the rules get stored; this change allows for faster storing after changing rules with less CPU usage.
I am sorry to be the bringer of bad news here.
No I’m sorry I put down that i was using 3.8 … I miss printed that, I am using 3.10.
Thank you!

After the installation of CIS there is a big update of the av definitions pending (approx 40 MB). During the update process the progress indicator will stay at 30% for a while. This is confusing to many users. When the download is slow it will stay at 30% for quite a while. I have seen reports of dial up users having to wait several hours (one person up to 4 hrs) for the update to finish.
My advice is to be patient for now. When the update has not finished 6 hrs from now then bump the topic again.
