A. THE BUG/ISSUE: Comodo Firewall checks for updates more often than stated in its options.
What you did: I configured Comodo Firewall to check for updates every 7 days.
What actually happened or you actually saw: Comodo Firewall checks for updates every day and often more than once a day.
What you expected to happen or see: I expected Comodo Firewall to check for updates only once every 7 days.
How you tried to fix it & what happened: I have not attempted any fixes.
If a software compatibility problem have you tried the compatibility fixes (link in format)?: I do not believe this is a software compatibility problem. Comodo Firewall is the only real-time security software I am running besides NoAutorun.
Details & exact version of any software (except CIS) involved (with download link unless malware): N/A.
Whether you can make the problem happen again, and if so precise steps to make it happen: Yes, but I’m not sure how to deliberately make it happen. It just happens on its own.
Any other information (eg your guess regarding the cause, with reasons): N/A.
B. FILES APPENDED. (Please zip unless screenshots).:
0. A diagnostics report file (Click ‘?’ in top right of main GUI) Required for all issues): Attached.
Screenshots of the 6.0 Killswitch Process Tab (see Advanced tasks ~ Watch Activity) or 5.x Active Process List. If accessible, required for all issues:: Attached.
Screenshots illustrating the bug: N/A.
Screenshots of related CIS event logs: No related event logs.
A CIS config report or file: Attached.

a) Have you imported a config from a previous version of CIS: No.
b) if so, have U tried a standard config (without losing settings - if not please do)?: No.
Have you made any other major changes to the default config? (eg ticked ‘block all unknown requests’, other egs here.): Settings attached.
Defense+/HIPS, Autosandbox/BBlocker, Firewall & AV security levels: Settings attached.
OS version, service pack, number of bits, UAC setting, & account type: Win XP Pro/SP3 32-bit Admin.

Other security software previously installed at any time since Windows was last installed: None.
Virtual machine used (Please do NOT use Virtual box)[color=blue]: None.
Thanks very much for your report in standard format, much appreciated.
Could I ask please whether it’s the program updater, or is it AV updates which is running. They use a similar task manager window, and may run at the same time on occasions. Maybe you could post a screenshot of what you see, and explain what gets in the way of using your machine (if it does).
It’s the program updater. I don’t have the Suite; I only have the Firewall. I’ve attached a screenshot. I’ve set the Firewall to check for updates once every 7 days, however, it checks for updates more than once each day, and this screen appears along with each update check. It gets annoying.
OK, should not be sig updates, but seems possible that they are only half disbled. Could you look in Control Panel ~ Admin Tools ~ Task Scheduler, for the Comodo group and see what tasks it’s running and with what frequency
Thank you very much for your report in standard format, with all information supplied. The care you have taken is much appreciated by Comodo, and will increase the likelihood that this bug can be fixed.
Developers may or may or may not communicate with you in the forum or by PM/IM, depending on time availability and need. Because you have supplied complete information they may be able to replicate and fix the bug without doing so.
A. THE BUG/ISSUE (Varies from issue to issue)
[ol]- Summary - Give a clear summary in the topic subject, NOT here.
Can U reproduce the problem & if so how reliably?: yes, 100%
If U can, exact steps to reproduce. If not, exactly what U did & what happened:
(Be sure to have longer than a day update schedules.)
Start OS.
Wait about 5 minutes.
3a. Check processes list for updater processes.
3b. Or after some time look at “Last Update” on GUI.
If not obvious, what U expected to happen:
IMHO CIS should only update when configured (corresponding job task).
I have configured CIS to check for AV updates every 7 days and CIS updates every 14 days for this test. Yet since several days CIS does AV updates and prg check about 5 minutes after each OS start.
I’m sure this is not a job task launched, because their last execution date is 2 and 9 days in past.
If a software compatibility problem have U tried the conflict FAQ?: no
Any software except CIS/OS involved? If so - name, & exact version: no
Any other information, eg your guess at the cause, how U tried to fix it etc: no
Always attach - Diagnostics file, Watch Activity process list, dump if freeze/crash. (If complex - CIS logs & config, screenshots, video, zipped program - not m’ware) attached, please PM for password

B. YOUR SETUP (Likely the same for each issue, so you can copy forward)

Have U made any other changes to the default config? (egs here.): some
Have U updated (without uninstall) from a CIS 5?: no
[li]if so, have U tried a a clean reinstall - if not please do?: n/a
[/li]- Have U imported a config from a previous version of CIS: from previous 6.x versions only
[li]if so, have U tried a standard config - if not please do: no
[/li]- OS version, SP, 32/64 bit, UAC setting, account type, V.Machine used: XP SP3 32b, admin, DEP, no VM
Other security/s’box software a) currently installed b) installed since OS: a=none b=none

Does the version number of the antivirus database change sometimes? I want to figure out if this is actually updating something, or if it is just an empty task which shows up in the logs but doesn’t actually do anything.
In addition, can you please PM me the password to your attachment?
Yes, the database version also changes. It’s normal update process like I’d click “Update” button (and there were new signatures). If I’m correctly remembering this was the issue since 6.x came up.
I hope you don’t mind, but I changed the title to something a little more descriptive. If you believe a different title is more appropriate please feel free to edit the title of your first post.

This issue appears to me to be the same as one already on file. Accordingly, I will merge them, if that’s OK. You can locate the merged report by following the link in the email notification.
If you don’t agree please PM any active mod with your reasons and, if appropriate, they will unmerge the issue.
Can you please check and see if this is fixed with the newest version (6.2.282872.2847)? Please let us know whether it is fixed or you are still experiencing the problem.
I have received feedback from the devs that apparently this is normal behavior. There is an additional schedule for AV update and CIS updates, which starts after logon and startup.
So what is the point in setting “check for program updates”/“check for database updates”? Does it expects to run OS for X days to run scheduled updates? No, this is definitely not fixed. This has not happened in 5.x and not in 6.0. Only from 6.1 onwards. (however in 6.0 there was other issue described in first report)
