Can't update virus database CIS 3.57173.5.439 [Merged Threads] - [RESOLVED]

My IE browser is set to use a proxy, localhost 3128
However update goes straight to the host on TCP port 80 see screenshot.

No proxy. It’s an SBS 2003 box behind an Untangle firewall. This network did use a proxy at one time, but not any more.

check the Firewall does not blocks cmdagent.exe or TCP connections via 80 port

Hello,

I tried what you suggested with Process Explorer and result is in attached screenshot. It seems CIS tried to connect to localhost:81, it goes red almost immediately and no more connections appear in Process Explorer.

Any ideas what could be wrong? I guess it should be connecting Comodod servers rather than some inactive port on my computer. ???

Sounds like your running a local proxy (like Ronny). Have you checked IE’s (or other browser) connection settings?

Yes, both Mozilla and MSIE are set to use direct connection, no proxies. Also there isn’t anything running on port 81.

When I go to update the Virus Database, it gives me an error message. It instructs me to activate my Internet connection, then try again. I know the difference between having an active Internet connection, and being off-line.
It is now impossible to update my virus database, due to that error message.

The same thing happens when COMODO is checking files, and keeps them in a special place before they are approved to be safe. Well that same pop-up happens, telling me to check my network connection. There is nothing wrong with my LAN or Internet connection. It all works fine.

How do I fix this problem? This has bugged me since the first day that I installed this product. And the last time that this error message popped up, it was stuck like glue to the screen. I couldn’t kill it. I had to turn off the machine to make it go away.

This is on an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop, with Vista Premium running on the machine.

Hi & welcome to the forum,

I assume you have CAV 3.5 as you say you have Windows Vista? Therefore I moved you topic to this section from the old CAVS section (CAVS 2.0 beta doesn’t support Vista).

As for your problem, I haven’t encountered anything similar, so I’m afraid I’m short on solutions there. Maybe there’s a topic that corresponds to your trouble.

No problem there. There are no restrictions on any executables or protocols and port 80 is open. I set the firewall to log calls through port 80 and then clicked on the Update button - nothing got logged so it appears that the connection attempt is not even being attempted. That jives with how fast the error comes up - after I press Update the failure error appears in less than one second.

It’s starting to look like maybe a DNS problem. If I type http://download.comodo.com into a browser I get a 404 - Page Not found error, but when I look in the firewall log it shows that call as 91.199.212.171:80 - if I then type http://91.199.212.171:80 into a browser it gets translated to http://antivirus.comodo.com/ and that page opens fine…

I tried ipconfig /flushdns on both the workstation and the server to no avail.

Are you able to ping download.comodo.com?
Check if cfpsbmit.exe and cmdagent.exe are not blocked by firewall

Also if you used any Beta releases of CIS and then updated to final version - I suggest you to clearly re-install latest CIS version.

Has anyone been able to get this resolved? I am able to connect to the download sites via the direct link urls listed above, however, when I browse to http://download.comodo.com/ I get a 404 error. Could this be the problem?

Am a bit disappointed with this whole process, I was waiting patiently for comodo to get their AV released so that I could remove Avast. And that I did, not because there was a problem with avast except that they keep asking you to re-register year in and year out (Even though it is free) so I got annoyed. Now it is looking like I am going to be going back to avast, just because their updates actually work, and without having to manually ■■■■■■ around with anything.

And yes I have tried this at two different connection points. Home and office. I also get 30% then stops (Done the process explorer thing) connections made, then terminated etc.

How frustrating is this? I mean it is potentially exciting, one suite that actually does what I want and nothing more, but alas I can see me going back to what I had.

Actually thinking about this, prior to upgrading to CIS from just CPF, I got the updates are available message. But when I clicked to download that didn’t work either. Is there not something in the setup on the comodo servers?

I now have sort of the same problem.
CIS displays a update error that i can;t connect to the internet.
2 days ago I could update without any problem.

So are the severs down ? Because it wont update @ home on both the pc and the laptop.
And the laptop also wont update @ school.

Regards,

Tin

I switched over all my machines from Kaspersky to Comodo two weeks ago - since then I have not been able to download ANY definition updates - if we cannot get resolution for this problem I will be forced to abandon Comodo for a different solution. I would like to keep working with Comodo but I need to resolve this issue soon.

i have the same problem. i said goodbye to AVG because of the major f*ckup the other day, and i thought i would get automatic updates with comodo, but it has occurred already twice that i had to manually do it. i wonder if i did something wrong… i checked the automatic update box in settings > update, but perhaps i must do something else as well?

thnx

@Tauping. Check the settings for Comodo Internet Security program group in Computer Policy (Defense + → Advanced → Computer security) and see if DNS is allowed or not in the policy.

On a sidenote. CIS is developed for XP (SP2 and up) and Vista. You are running CIS on SBS 2003; which is pretty similar to Vista (if I understand things correctly) but not necessarily an exact copy…

I used Kyle’s suggestion and virus updates are since working as they should.

Comodo Internet Security is set to Custom Policy with Run an Executable set to Ask and all others set to Allow.

To clarify my setup - I am running CIS on two workstations running Windows XP SP3 and Windows XP SP2 which are in an SBS 2003 domain that sits behind an Untangle firewall.

PS Is there some way for me to get the update files via ftp or something so I can manually copy them in? I’d like to work with you to sort this out, but I need updated definitions in the mean time.
