Cannot install new version of comodo firewall

I too have wasted hours and just cannot get the new version to install on my XP SP3 machine and of course there is no option for SP3 only SP2. What a waste of time

Had/have the same problem. It maybe a bug in the installer that does not clean up reg keys and left-over files/settings in hidden folders. But that should be adviced from Comodo programmers in the same message that has the “update available” announcement-!! It is a pain in the b— that these bugs happen again and again because they are not tested proberly.
That said I do not feel like spending hours at my PC to try again to update a complex but nice and effective firewall untill these bugs are fixed.-
After reinstalling v.3 again, my connection to the update server is dropped after a few seconds with an error mess.: 113 (???) - whatever that means -

My advice: DO NOT update CFP v.3 untill they can reassure us that it will work free of bugs and blue-screens.

Hi,
Has anyone who is having this install problem with V4.1 downloaded and installed the version recommended by languy99 (Moderator) following this link:
FIXED CIS 4.1 Installer Download Antivirus for Mac | Free Antivirus Software for Mac
AND BEEN SUCCESSFUL?
I have downloaded it to my system, but I’m waiting for someone else to say they have been successful. Meanwhile, I am using the older version of Comodo Firewall.
Thank you,
Bob

They need take no action.
You can get all old versions from

Alan

Thanks Alan. As a few others have done, I downloaded the last version via your link and it appears to be working fine. Ironically, after downloading and installing Comodo 3, the first thing that popped up on my screen was a message that “updates are available.” As a knee ■■■■ reaction, I almost clicked on it! :-)))

Is there any way we can be informed when Comodo fixes whatever bugs are in the new version? I would hope they are working on it.

I appreciate the forum’s input. Thanks!

Hi guys,- I had a lot of trouble also installing CIS/CFPv.4, but if you have another app installed, like Comodo Reg cleaner(reg protection), Spybot S&D with “teatimer”, some anti-virus/spy/malware suite you might have forgotten that you have ticked some setting like: “registry protection”, or “lock the registry”-?? :o yearh right-!! THEN it is time to reset any “lock” or “protection” of the registry, inactivate any antivirus/spyware app and also BEFORE you uninstall CFPv.2 or v.3: Untick ALL controls/monitoring and remove ALL protected reg keys, applications, files and folders, windows system fils and ALL other categories so the pages are all blank, thereby rendering the firewall completely neutral/inactive in any respect,-
then reboot and check if some setting reversed back-
Then uninstall and do the reg cleaning with different cleaners, but I think the issue here is some kind of lock or control or protection of the registry that you folks forget to inactivate…- 88)
That’s why Comodo cannot provide a fix for everybody: they simply do not know what strange apps are running on peoples PCs and what the settings are…- :-[ – ;)–

Hello Jerus,

Perhaps I don’t belong on this forum because, quite frankly, I have NO idea how to do several of the steps you suggest. Sure, I know how to install/uninstall programs using the windows platform, plus how to temporarily turn off spyware, antivirus programs and obviously uninstall the current version of Comodo that I am running. But checking the registry keys and other windows system files…I wouldn’t know where to start and would be hesitant to do any of that because I’ve learned that fooling around with the registry can really ■■■■■ up a pc.

For now I’m satisfied with the old version and will keep it until Comodo comes up with some neat, clear, easy-to-follow directions for installing v.4.

I had the same problem this morning after uninstalling Comode Firewall 3.x and trying to install the new version 4.x. I use Windows XP SP 3 completely standard configuration with all available standard updates installed.

Just use the clean up batch file provided by the Comodo forum community (after the old firewall version was uninstalled on your system):

After starting the clean up batch file it was possible to install the newest version of commodo firewall.

Cheers.

I am sorry that I started another thread; I hadn’t spotted this one. For anyone who didn’t read my post, I managed to get back to 3.14 by simply using System Restore in Windows and went back 2 days, so maybe that will work for other folk. Don’t forget that Windows XP itself has a basic firewall, so you can temporarily switch that on for a certain amount of protection until this upgrade problem is sorted out. I too have been using the Comodo firewall for quite a while and am not keen to abandon it. For the time being I am ignoring the endless reminders that pop up that version 4 is available until some of the more technically literate users here give us the OK.

Yes, Windows XP does have a basic firewall. The reason I prefer Comodo (or even ZoneAlarm) is that they are two-way firewalls. The firewall in Windows XP does not prevent/check outgoing messages/communications.

Thanks for the advice Keyhole but I think it’s clear from my post that I am only recommending switching on the Windows firewall as a temporary measure while you are trying to get something better up and running. Even a basic firewall is better than nothing. As I said, I have rolled back my system and now have the previous version of Comodo Firewall running and I’ll wait until it’s clear this issue has been properly resolved before trying again to upgrade. Since I rolled back, I have stopped receiving the daily pop-up reminder to upgrade.

Jeffg: you wrote,

“I’ll wait until it’s clear this issue has been properly resolved before trying again to upgrade.”

Any idea how you (we) will know when it has been resolved? Will there be a post here at the forum?

Thanks.

Just another person that is having problems installing the latest version.

Note many of the posters in this thread are running XP SP3 and that is what I’m running. Noted on the DL page, version is for XP SP2, Vista and W7.

I’m beginning to believe the new version is not comaptable with SP3. Have DL’d the latest version under all 3 opts for installer. All end in same results. Have also DL’d the Comodo removal tool but have yet to try. Will have to create a restore point first.

Like other have mentioned, have used CIS for a number of yrs and this is the first time I’ve had any problems. Little disappointing so little word from Comodo Directly for those of us having problems up-grading.

Keyhole - I’m sort of computer savvy but only by dint of using the ■■■■ things for over 20 years - I am certainly not in any way technically minded or proficient. So I have bookmarked this part of the forum where I can see it at the top of my browser and have a look once a day or so to see what others have posted. You’ll certainly know progress is being made when more knowlegable users start reporting the problem is solved and explain how they did it. I know this isn’t very satisfactory - best would be a straightforward announcement from Comodo themselves explaining how the problem has arisen and how it can be solved, preferably with an amended update. So my advice, for what little it’s worth, is to just keep an eye on those threads dealing with this issue. At some point, it will either be satisfactorily resolved, or you’ll read that people have given up and started migrating to other products.

Thanks for the guidance, Jeffg. Your 20 years gives you a perspective I don’t have yet.

I will do as you suggest: check the forum daily.

Like some others have written here, I’m surprised that the company has not yet offered any fix or direction on how to do install the new version for those who are using XP SP3. It’s been several weeks since this problem arose.

In the meantime, I’m staying with Comodo 3 despite the “updater” that pops up once a day on boot up. It’s not that much of a nuisance and I prefer Comodo 3 to all of the other free two-way firewalls that I’ve previewed (e.g., ZoneAlarm).

It has now been a month since this issue arose and posts appeared (June 9, 2010). Does anyone have any updates from Comodo about a simple way of resolving the problems that some of us have had trying to load the updated version of Comodo? Thanks.

If you’re still having problems installing the newest version can you please try the steps advised here:
https://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-help-cis/how-to-upgrade-from-v3-to-v4-t58620.0.html
and see if it works.

Thanks.

Hi,
I finally managed a successful installation of V4 (Firewall only) using Chiron’s instructions. One thing to note; Revo will use the built-in CIS Uninstaller, when the CIS Uninstaller finishes it will prompt you to reboot but click no and let Revo complete its process as you select and delete the remaining Registry entries and CIS files - then reboot.
Worked for me! Thanks Chiron.
Bob

Thanks, I added that to my instructions.
