"Cannot Display The Webpage" [Resolved]

Hi,

Can anyone help me to resolve this technical error? Certain websites like yahoo mail & hotmail (but not gmail) are not able to access the window message appear is “Internet Explorer Cannot Display The Webpage”.

???

Welcome to the forum CMG01

We are going to need a little more information.

Do you have any entries in your log file related to IE, if so, could you take a screen shot and post them here, please.

Also, have you created/changed any rules, in either Application Monitor or Network monitor

Toggie

Hi Toggie,

Thanks for coming to “rescue” here.

I have changed the network monitor rules using the flash guide with some add-on.

How can I paste the screen shots here direct coz I’m not able to attach wps files (save under microsoft works word processor)? I tried the buttons insert pictures but I don’t understand how to make it work. Sorry I need your patience here to help a non-tech person like me and appreciate that alot.

Hi CMG01
To post copies from your comodo log “right click” in the log window and choose “export html” from there you can copy and paste relevant sections of your log directly into your post.
Here’s a tutorial on screenshot posting

The " FastStone Capture " program is an excellent free capture tool.
It will allow you to save to file amongst other options

Hi Sullo,

The screen shots software is a great tool and now I can attach the files. Thanks alot! (:CLP)

So, what could be the cause of my technical error to access certain websites?

You can access GMail but not Hotmail or Yahoo Mail?

So what’s the problem? (:WIN)

I have no idea what could be the problem to this. When I adjust security level to “Allow All” from “Custom”, then those websites which earlier unable to display will have no more problem. So, I need help here to see if that could be my network setting rules being too tight, or something else.

CMG01,

One thing I see is that in your Network Monitor, Rule ID 3 is going to block everything that has not already been allowed. The rules filter from the top down; traffic doesn’t stop until it hits a rule that either allows or denies it. That rule is set to Block IP In/Out from Any to Any where IP Detail is Any; this means it will block all possible IP protocols in or out of your computer, which have not already been allowed by your preceding rules (which look like zone rules).

This is the default Block All rule, which should be in the lowest position in the Network Monitor. You may want to move it down below your TCP/UDP block rule (which doesn’t give the coverage of the Block IP In/Out rule).

See if that helps. BTW, If Allow All works, that says that it’s pretty much guaranteed it’s a rules issue; most likely in the Network Monitor. Based on the screenshot of the logs, there’s a lot of blocked activity; I can’t see the detail, but I’m betting it’s related to the rule ID 3.

You killed the funny.

I saw that. I feel for ya.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t…

Opps… (:NRD) ;D

I agree that could be my network monitors rules setting and still trying to fix but so far until now I still fail to get those websites display. I tried to set a rule which allow a particular website using the this rule: Allow-TCP/UDP-Zone-Name-Any-80,443 and put above all block rules. But the result is still negative i.e. the website no display. Why ya? Pls help…

:THNK

Will you do this:

Go to Activity/Logs. Right-click an entry and select “Clear all logs.”

Then browse to a page you know won’t open properly. When it fails, go back to Activity/Logs. Right-click and select “Export to HTML.” Save the file, then reopen it.

Highlight the entries there (for the time frame surrounding the website issue), Copy the highlighted section, and Paste it into your next post here. That way we’ll see exactly what’s being blocked.

You can mask out your personal/external IP address with “x” for privacy, if it shows in the logs (which it very well may).

If you are not using a proxy server, you may go to Security/Advanced/Miscellaneous. Find the two boxes for “Skip loopback…TCP/UDP” and make sure both are checked. While you’re in there, make sure the top box, “Enable Alerts” and second box, “Do not show alerts for applications certified by Comodo” are checked. click OK. Reboot.

Try it again. YOu should get a popup about the browser connecting to 192.168.1.1(dns53). Check “Remember” and select Allow. The browser is trying to verify your internet connectivity, and needs to be able to do so.

See if that doesn’t help you out.

LM

I followed your suggested formula and checked all the 4 boxes then click OK and reboot the computer. But, I don’t get the popup window message when I opened the browser of both IE and Firefox. So, this method cant resolve the issue also. What others could be now and I dun have a clue. When I click “allow all” all websites works fine. ???

Thanks ya Little Mac for spending the time here trying to solve my problem…appreciate that… :■■■■

Just a question, but did you reboot?

Yes I did. Today I switch on computer and hoping that things go well but still the same result. Nothing changed for those webisites. I guess maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall the software again and see if that works.

(:NRD)

Yeah, now the CFP works perfectly well after I’ve reinstalled it again. I made the mistakes for making too many changes from original settings that I couldn’t recalled which one I did in the first place. So, the few possible changes that made some websites unable to display could be: I turned on the component monitor from learn mode and the network rules. I have tested if my network rules are in order with the component monitor on, I will still have no access to certain websites.

Thanks for all who give me some thoughts here.

Great, I’m glad it works for you now. Sorry a reinstall was required; sometimes that does work best, though. Personally, I recommend leaving Component Monitor set to Learn until you have run pretty much all of your internet-connected programs, and components (as much as is feasible). Most people tend to find this is accomplished within a few weeks. Occasionally you’ll still get a popup about components the first time you do something like listen to streaming audio, etc.

I’ll go ahead and mark the topic resolved and close it. If you need it reopened, just PM a Moderator (please include a link) and we’ll be glad to do so.
