I think that there is a fundamental misunderstanding here. I’ve read a lot on other forums and there is a constant mention, with regard to DACS, of “AV Servers” and that this is a contravention of the respective AVs licensing.

DACS is purely a delivery and receipt mechanism. It is a P2P between users of Comodo software and selected volunteers running the DACS service.

Think of it this way - we have a user (“A”) who has a suspicious file and 20 other users (“B1” - “B20”). User A submits the suspicious file to the DACS P2P. It is then distributed to users B1 through to B20. On receipt of the file, it is automatically scanned LOCALLY by the legally licensed AV on each of the “B” users systems. When a result is returned by the AV, the result only is passed back to user A. At the end of the process, user A’s system displays the 20 results returned by DACS.

There is no centralized server. The file is not being scanned across a network, it is only being distributed by a network. The copyrighted technologies of the other AVs are not being appropriated by Comodo, only the results.

I don’t believe that the output result of the AV is copyrighted and IMHO (but I’m not a lawyer) cannot be copyrighted. If the result were copyrightable, the AV companies may have to take responsibility for the users actions resulting from the users interpretation of the presented result.

DACS is a three stage process - 1) distribution of a suspicious file to a closed group, 2) local submission of that file to an AV and 3) receipt, collation and presentation to the originating user of the returned results.
