After infection: what to do to be sure my PC is really free?

Well, let´s say I was betrayed by Virus Totall site…A few days ago I installed an infected file after Virust Total reported that file was “free of malwares”…On the other side Comodo antivirus detected viruses after the fille installation…then, its anitivirus engine could not be intialized…Following some instructions posted here( “What do I do if I´m infected”), Avira reported the following msgs:

C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1275210071-789336058-725345543-1004\Dc7.rar’
contained a virus or unwanted program ‘TR/Vundo.SOO’ [trojan]
‘C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1275210071-789336058-725345543-1004\Dc6.zip’
contained a virus or unwanted program ‘TR/Vundo.SOO’ [trojan]
‘C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1275210071-789336058-725345543-1004\Dc5.zip’
contained a virus or unwanted program ‘TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen’ [trojan]
‘C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1275210071-789336058-725345543-1004\Dc4.zip’
contained a virus or unwanted program ‘TR/Vundo.SOO’ [trojan]
‘C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1275210071-789336058-725345543-1004\Dc3.rar’
contained a virus or unwanted program ‘BDS/Graybird.MT’ [backdoor]
‘C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1275210071-789336058-725345543-1004\Dc1.rar’
contained a virus or unwanted program ‘BDS/Graybird.MT’ [backdoor]

After deleting them ( guess it was not necessary to use Hijackthis or ComboFix), I reinstalled Comodo firewall, but not its antivirus cos I decided to try Avira for a while…however XP crashes from time to time and I feel my PC is not 100%…I also use a p2p software and Peerguardian…what do you warn me to do to fix my poor computer?

The only way to to make your computer 100% malware free is to Reformat.

If you followed all the instructions in “What to do if I’m Infected?” thread and are having XP Crashes, And you haven’t reformatted in a few years - I think it’s time to do so, Or you can keep scanning with the recommended tools in that thread. Also try a Defrag as well. P2P is a highly targeted source for malware, so you most likely got a nasty infection of one the networks from P2P.

You also need to take into consideration that only your AV and Firewall should be loaded on startup.
