actually i feel stupid about it. but you said it ;D
I’m with Burillo. I have used and trusted CCleaner for a long time, which I still do, but there are obviously valid entries while running its registry cleaning aspect. This is from a pc I recently reformatted with nLite, so I know they are valid (:WIN). Whether it be the manual regedit or a cleaner method, don’t remove things unless you know exactly what they are. And guess why I reformated 88) because of running RegSeeker and deleted just 2 keys that were supposedly safe. It didn’t break my system, but ruined WMP that even reinstall didn’t work.
Ron: Do you want to expand the thread title or shall we move posts on other products away?
good to know you know what I’m talking about Soyabeaner
thats exactly what happened to me with Regcure, it removed some valid keys, how i knew it was vaild is when certain programs of mine stopped working which i knew RegCure listed over 20 reg keys for each of them programs and it removed them. Problem with Regcure is its a powerful regcleaner but doesn’t show you any useful information about what these keys are for, your lucky if it shows what program they relate to, unfortunately once regcure messed up things for me, CCleaner began to delete valid keys after resintalling them software because regcure had broken the key associations or hooks, its hard to explain but I’m sure you know what i mean
since resintalling EasyCleaner back though its been doing a safe good job at keeping my registry safe and tidy without removing any valid keys and I’ll be sticking to it i wish forever lol.
you may move this post into a more appropriate section that you see fit
i think this topic though would be useful to those who are thinking about using a regcleaning program to clean up things when they uninstall CFP 3 or any other software and want to install it back Fresh, which since CFP 3 came out many have been doing that and have been advised to do so, so I think this topic could be useful and informative for some ppl

Ron
Ok, then I’ll just append the title with “& Other Registry Cleaners”.
I recommend ERUNT, which is a registry backup program. This one is reliable since it covers even the ones currently in use :). Use it before deleting items with a registry cleaner that you’re not certain on. I’ve tried restoring the backups of deleted registries from a couple of cleaners, and they didn’t work for me at that time :o.
In a way, we can’t blame some programmers for not having a good cleaner. Just as there is no such thing as 100% detection with AV’s, there is none for registry cleaners with unlimited software in existence. Their system is like heuristics - relying on certain patterns. e.g. if a value of a registry key is empty or blank, it’s detected as an “error”. There are tons of valid registry keys like that. Even if some seemingly reference files that aren’t on the pc (anymore), how does one know if it isn’t required just because of the way Windows is programmed? It could take a long time like months down the road to notice something’s not right or working anymore >:(
That said, I’m still interested in a registry cleaner that can distinguish between possible errors and safe to delete. Wise Registry Cleaner is probably one of the few that has this feature. Again, take caution.
Yeah thats fine
and from me I recommend EasyCleaner, I’ve used it on Win95, Win98, WinME and WinXP and its real good that the only thing you have to worry about it is getting bored of it and going to try something new lol
I wish there was one of those, I’d far rather have a registry with stuff thats needs to be there and every bit of junk purged out of it and then Defrag it.
Hi anyone use tune up utilities? I do but i make sure I keep backups until things seem right! Ps its memory optimizer certainly speeded up my pc.
I also agree with Burillo, manual delete is the only sure way I used a reg cleaner in the past and it managed to delete all the keys for the modules in my Avg antivirus.
Some programs write reg keys which are not strictly correct which when delete can cause big problems especially if you do not notice the problem for some months.
Dennis
I use regseeker http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
I’ts great and there is a AutoClean Feature (Freeware)
I haven’t tried RegCure, I suppose I won’t do it either (after the words of warning).
As for RegSeeker: it’s extremely powerful and may damage your installations. I know by experience that it damages AutoCAD 2008. And I suspect that it has caused the disc burning program InfraRecorder to freeze my system completely. I still use RegSeeker (along with CCleaner), but only because I don’t use AutoCAD right now, and because I can’t get back the ability to run InfraRecorder anyway… it’s too late. At least I have no idea of how to do it.
I’ve always found CCleaner to be safe. A general rule (of my suggestion) would be; the more “invalid” entries a registry cleaner finds, the more dangerous it is!
LA
The experienced users find cleaners as a convenience, but selectively delete items they know are safe 8).
But you won’t really go through 368 (at least not 733) invalid entries, that’s why you’ve given up RegSeeker. (:TNG)
LA
I was using CCleaner for a while before using RegCure for a shorter while. First time i ran Regcure it found 1200 some odd entries for deletion (:TNG) lol
i don’t think anyone would want to selectively go through that to see what is what and shouldn’t be deleted lol!
after that, eachtime i ran it it would list 100 or more keys to delete thats still alot to go through :-\ eek but no where as bad as a thousand or more :o
so what should i do with these regitry cleaners then >:(
Use them one by one, and with a little luck we don’t see you back here (:TNG)
Greetz, Red.
ow, clicking “show new replies to your posts” didn’t show this post ???
hmm, i’m just thinking, i still have problem with windows update, the automatic updater won’t work, and got “error 0x8024402C” when trying to do “express scan” from www.update.microsoft.com.
i’ve tried to contact the support center, tried the suggestions mentioned, not helping. i end up installing Belarc advisor" to find missing critical updates & manually download the updates.
so… pheeew, what a relief, maybe i can blame these registry cleaner for that mysterious disease.
(i thought someone counter attacked my voodoo spell ;D )
nah, i’ve tried them all. those are exactly the first suggestions given to me. i even tried to uninstall CFP3. i’ll try them once again.
:BNC :BNC HHEEEYYYYY, i tried the last suggestion mentioned here (it’s not even suggestion for XP)
http://www.updatexp.com/0x8024402c.html
After combing the newsgroups for 2 days and trying everything mentioned but
to no avail, I decided to just HACK the ■■■■ issue myself and well I found
the fix.
If you are using w2k server and get that ■■■■ Error number: 0x8024402C when
using the new Microsoft Update do the following:
-
Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings -
If you see a connections folder, look inside and there should be a
default key and a WinHttpSettings key.
3)Export the connections folder and delete it. (export it so you have a
backup of it)
- You should now be able to go to Microsoft Update and scan without seeing
that ■■■■ Error number: 0x8024402C .
express scan works! many thx Red
oh, and this is the first time i “tweak” regedit,
we should celebrate, beers on me :■■■■ :■■■■ :■■■■
Ganda
(sometimes off topic post can be useful) (:TNG)

ehhm, i quoted them, it’s not me ;D
