COMODO BackUp 2.1.118414.11 BUG REPORTS

yes

Most of CBU executable files (SynchronizationService.exe, ComodoCrashReport.exe etc.) aren’t digitally signed. This leads to unnecessary CIS Defense+ alerts.

I am getting “Execution of job 1 of 1 failed with error code 4” messages when running an restore operation.

Windows XP SP3
CBU 2.1.118414.11
CIS 3.13…573
CTM Beta
CSC 2.1.114…
NFTS Basic
No log files available
No minidumps available.

Backup stage 1 , I have tried both the “Backup System Partition” and “Disks Partitions and MBR” options.
Backup jobs saved as .cbu files and saved to an external USB hard drive.

On the restore process i selected "Restore Disk 0, restore path Disk 1.
Restore process fails with “code 15” and a pop up message appears saying “Schedule restore at next start up?”

On restart " Execution of job…failed with error code 4"

I have verified that the program has installed correctly.

Macrium Reflect ran without any problems, but Windows insisted on running Disk Check after CBU and Macrium finished their restore process and the computer restarted.

User settings/profile restored with any problems.

Writing this through Comodo Dragon.

COMODO Backup “synchronization mode” not working on Windows 7.

Setup a Backup job for a hard drive in synchronization mode at 5 minutes intervals and added files to the drive but nothing happened on the backup drive.

Read below:

  • Your Operating System : Windows 7 Pro 64bit

  • Other Backup & Security Software Installed : Avira Antivirus Personal

  • How you produced the problem:
Step 1: Selection type = Files and Directories
Step 2 : Backup Settings = Synchronized Copy
Step 3 : Backup Path = External USB Hard drive
    Step 4 : Other Settings = Default
Step 5 : Settings for scheduled backup = Default
Step 6: Creating Backup = Completed and Finished

  • How you tried to resolve the problem:
    1 - Ran diagnose/Repair and everything ok
2 - Tried Scheduled Backup instead of Synchronized Copy and everything worked fine in that mode.
3 -Change the Privilege level for”CBU, cbunat, ComodoCrashReport and SynchronizationService applications in the Comodo Program files folder to “Run this Program as an administrator”.

  • Screen-shots with the error (if any): No Errors

  • Post Memory Dumps on crash if you encounter any: N/A

  • file system (FAT32/NTFS/…) : NTFS

  • All log files; See Below

  • does Diagnose in Settings tab says the application is installed correctly? Yes

Hi

There are some known issues with “synchronization mode” on Windows 7
They will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks

Hi

Did error code 4 occurred at the beginning, at the end or during the restore process?
Does verify operation for .cbu file say the image is OK?

Thanks

“Did error code 4 occurred at the beginning, at the end or during the restore process?”

It occurs soon after starting. Progress shows 0%.

“Does verify operation for .cbu file say the image is OK?”

Yes, verification syas the image is good.

I can now report that after installing the latest version of CTM, I took another backup of my C drive with CBU 2.1.1184… and tried an restore.

The restore completed without incident.

c

Thank you for the feedback

What is CTM?

I’m having this issue with error code 4 when trying to restore. I posted in another thread because I didn’t know if this was a bug or not, but no one has responded to my post.

If someone could tell me what CTM is , I’ll try that as well. I’m desperate to get this situation fixed as I have been trying for three days to restore this data.

Thanks,
LDurham

Hi LDurham,

CTM is Comodo Time Machine, that’s software that can take snapshots of your systems data and registry so you can go back to let’s say the state your laptop was in yesterday…

But i hardly think this will fix your problem, cause in the previous post CTM was causing the problem, if you don’t have that installed it would be your cause of error 4.

Hello
In the Russian version COMODO Backup word “Без сжатия” need correct to “Нет”.
Best Regards

Thank you.

Where should I post my question? I posted it here:

but I have not recieved a response. Please accept my apologies if I posted in the wrong location.

Thank you,

    COMODO BackUp
    Publisher: C-O-M-O-D-O
    Version: 2.1.118414.11

Have attempted to restore from the last 15 nightly backups. All result in the above error, “Recover process failed with code 4”, some more quickly than others, none taking longer than 10 to 15 minutes to return this error.

Have then verified each and every backup and tried again. Verification passes with no issues.

Updated to the latest build of Comodo Backup.

Have attempted to restore to mapped network drive, same error.
Have attempted to restore to network drive via UNC, always receiving “Specify a valid directory for the restore location” error before I can even start the restore.

(Searched and Read the forums regarding getting the code 4 error when creating a backup and the necessity of naming a file, not just a path so I actually tried to put a file name there, this resulted in the very same “invalid path” error. )

Searched Forums for “Recover process failed with code 4” and found nothing.
Searched Forums for “ code4” and only found posts/threads regarding this error code and creating Backups, not restoring.

Attempted to restore just part of the backup, same error.

Each time the restore process is attempted, ONE folder is created in destination.

Cannot restore to original location as drive has failed, hence the reason for the restore. Need to restore to new NAS location but seem unable to do so.

Have tried restore process with both Clean Restore Method and Append Files Restore Method, same code 4 error.

Moved one of the .cbu files to a new location on the mapped NAS drive and attempted restore via mapped drive, again error code 4.

Tried to restore that moved .cbu file via “network” in Step 1 “Restore Path” (first selection in Restore Dialog changing the selected radio button from “my computer” to “network” and browsing to the network location.) Same error.

So, finally I tried to restore at least a few files to a local drive and it works.

I have a 56GB backup that I cannot restore to the drive it came from, and only have room on the new NAS, is there ANY way to recover/restore to a network/NAS location?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Lisa Durham

Hi Lisa Durham

Did you tried to restore to a different location on your local computer?
You can deselect the “Restore to default location” checkbox in restore step 3 and type a new path.

Emanuel,

She wrote also…

So, finally I tried to restore at least a few files to a local drive and it works.

So it looks like that works

I’m not sure if it works when she tries to restore all files from backup.
Anyway, we working on this issue right now.

Thanks

She doesn’t have enough space on the local drive to try a full restore…

Hello,

Can you please tell us what is NAS in your case? Is it just a network mapped drive, or is it a hardware device (hard disk storage that is set up with its own network address)?

And also tell us what is the source of the backup you performed.

Thank you.

I think it’s also important to know if the user has CIS installed and “Block fragmented IP datagrams” active.
This is known to cause trouble on NAS devices and Streaming Media boxes.

Lisa can you check the following, open CIS GUI, Firewall, Advanced, Attack detection, Misc
And see if “Block fragmented IP datagrams” is active? If so can you please untick it and see if a restore still gives “code 4”? Please remember to switch it back on after the test.
