xxx.exe has tried to use Firefix.exe ......

I am getting recurrent alerts along the line of “C:\program Files\approach\approach.exe has tried to use firefox.exe through OLE Automation, which can be used to hijack other applications. approach.exe might be using firefox.exe to connect to the Internet.”

Details
Application firefox.exe
Remote IP: 192.168.1.2 Port: dns(53) - UDP [that’s the address of my router]
Parent robotaskbaricon.exe

More often it is OpenOffice that sends this message.

This seems to be associated with intermittent periods during which I cannot use firefox and/or thurnderbird (i.e. not always both) without turning off the firewall. I think, but am not sure that this might be associated with the response I make to the Alert above. Sometimes I say ‘no’ thinking there is no need for the program to connect to the Internet, sometimes I say ‘yes’ hoping that it will cause fewer problems.
This condition will fix itself after a couple of days without any intervention by me.

Earlier Ewen solved a similar problem by suggesting I allow anything on Port 53. Which I have done. This is really a continuation of that thread, but I thought I should start a new one here.

I thought this was about a porn executable trying to use Firefix based on the topic title at first :o

Seriously though, if you recognize both programs as trusted, you can allow the alert or there will be a risk of net disconnection. Read more about it here: https://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,7072.0.html
