Thanks for the link, had no idea. That’s another reason not to force the upgrade to Vista: there’s a new Windows in the works and it will likely be released before support for XP is ended. After all the marketing Vista might end up as a transition product somewhat.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. Lets face it, half the things they promised for Vista never made it. To me Vista is another Windows ME, the sooner it goes away the better ![]()
Lol @ “windows 7” i bet it’ll need more upgrades like… 2 GB ram and such.
Microsoft Windows XP x64 Is the best
I run Windows Vista Ultimate on my desktop with 2 GB of RAM and 2.4GHz AMD Athlon 64 3800+ CPU.
It runs well, however if XP does everything you need it to, then stick with it. Unless you’re a gamer I see no reason to upgrade to Vista for the next couple of years.

2 GB? I bet by the time Win7 comes out all machines will have 20 GB at the least. :o ![]()
Justin, +1.
I voted for XP.
The functionality of XP is close to perfect for me, at least I can’t think of anything I’d wish to be different. Perhaps something in the topic of performance, but I doubt that Vista would help me there.
The GUI of XP is also something I like. I have everything the classic way, with detailed lists and all that. No thumbnails, no previews, it’s all like Win 98. No gadgets or anything. I don’t like Google’s philosophy of “put all files wherever you want, and use desktop search to find them”, so I have a perfect structure of folders. Thus, I don’t need any desktop search like the one Vista has these days. I don’t need any fancy Aero stuff (even though it looks cool, I can’t deny that). Just a decent visual style for XP.
As I think Vista does not offer any GUI advantages for me, and the performance will decrease significantly unless I buy a “monster-computer”, I won’t even consider using Vista.

Windows Vista! Why? Because it’s a step forward that everyone will eventually have to make, I haven’t bumped into glitches or compatibility issues(Win98 printer drivers installed on Vista just right :P), and because I know where to tickle it in order to get the performance hog out of it. One place: Desktop Window Manager! I was never a fan of shiny desktop skins and I still go with the old designs. With 2GB RAM I can afford it.
I don’t like those search features either, be they copied from Mac or not, they’re for the people who don’t know where they put the stuff themselves. Even in XP I’ve got indexing turned off. Meh I performed searches in DOS with “dir /s”, I don’t need this nonsense.
Then we are on the exactly same level. Like you I’ve also turned off the indexing function. If putting files anywhere and everywhere, and then finding them with Google Desktop / Vista’s ditto / Mac OS Finder, I feel that you completely loose control of your system and files.
Well, for me it is a step backward, so at this time I don’t know what to replace XP with the next time. But that doesn’t matter, I can use XP for years ahead. Anyway, if you prefer Vista, I’m sure you are happy to get the Comodo Firewall Pro v 3 with Vista support. ![]()

It can be time consuming to find files even if you have everything in order…
I don’t have indexing on either, but I use Locate32 sometimes. It’s based on database so you have to update it sometimes, but it’s really fast.
I have like 50000 raw-images, and a bunch of them converted to jpg or tif, so I save time by using Locate32. It took 5 seconds to find 62500 images when I searched for jpg
I wont even try that with windows built in search…
Congratulations, you just figured out how I ended up using CFP and why I’m so involved in the project. XD
Yes, now I understand your interest in the “Are we going to release v3 next tuesday 20th Nov or not?” thread!

I see there are two votes for Vista I was begining to wonder if anybody else was going to vote for Vista.![]()
Since somebody mention Windows ME I had it on my previous desktop computer which I replaced this year.;D

So! You were the ME user ![]()
ME too ;D
Oh my! there were two of you !!! ![]()
Actually I considered ME a good improvement because it had a system restore (which was bugged, of course)
BTW The most wanted feature in Vista is missing. WinFS
You use System Restore…Oi!
Mainly for support and troubleshooting. I consider it a viable alternative to Disk imaging.
