With previous version of comodo firewall I have had no problem, however, with version 5 installed, when I boot my pc I get two error messages and the desktop stays black with only the recycle bin on display.
The error messages are:
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemProfile|Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable.
and
“Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the user profile service This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the system event log…”
When i unstall Comodo, everything works as normal again.
Unfortunately not. I have uninstalled Comodo and using windows firewall now. With comodo installed I cannot use my pc (No desktop) and have to keep rebooting several times until I am able to see the desktop to uninstall Comodo. Don’t want to install it again for fear of not being able to use my pc at all. I was waiting on an update to Comodo or a fix before re installing…
tinman9898 Thanks for trying out CIS; I’m terrible sorry that you were having issues;
If you wish, you can come back another time; and EricHJ and I could help you solve any issues you are having (OR Use GeekBuddy to help you ( www.geekbuddy.com )
Thanks for your offer of help Jacob, however, I don’t see how this will be possible as I would have to install Comodo, then I would not be able to use my pc to get online to follow any instructions. If you can think of some way of doing this though, let me know.
I’m sure if you install CIS and then Before the initial restart; open CIS > Defense+ > Defense+ Settings > Training Mode (Also disable sanbdox for the moment)… Restart
Then Once restarted; if all is well re-enable Defense + Safe Mode Setting ; also enable sandbox …
When installing, Comodo installer gives you three options… 1. Firewall 2. Firewall with optimum proactive defence 3. Firewall with maximum proactive defence
Which is the best option to select which will give the least problems? No 2. is selected by default…
In my experience comodo seems to be designed for people with a good understanding of technology. I have a good level of knowledge about pcs etc. but even I get confused by several options at times. It may be an idea for Comodo to give the option of step by step instructions for novices or further info about each option and any problems which may arise by selecting that option.
I have followed your instructions and restarted. On restart the desktop loaded but I get the following error message… ( this happened before and then when I restart a second time the desktop won’t load up)
IP helper has stopped working

I have not reset the defence plus settings or sand box setting. I await further advice from you…
**update: I was informed by comodo of an update which I accepted. I then rebooted. IP helper error occurred again but desktop has loaded after restart. When I closed the IP helper message the task bar at the bottom of my screen seems to have lost the aero glass settings and gone a grey colour. I still have defence plus and sand box disabled…
With defence plus set to ‘training’, ‘sandbox disabled’ and ‘block all unkown requests if application is closed’, when I reboot the desktop loads up but immediately gives me the following ‘IP helper has stopped working’ error.

Last time I started windows I also got the desktop errors again (as well as the IP helper error) and the desktop wouldn’t display. I had to reboot again before the desktop loaded… ‘Aero’ seems to also be disabled which I’m linking to the IP helper error as it only vanishes after I close the error message…
Now getting random freezes as well as the previously mentioned problems with comodo firewall 5 installed. Have to click the reset button on my pc to reboot… please could you point me to a link to download version 4 again. Getting fed up with version 5… will have to prevent updates in future if they are going to cause so many issues…
I have now uninstalled version 5 and reinstalled version 4 (found it on my hard drive) which is giving no problems at all. I have disabled updates until I see an update for version 5 on the comodo firewall download page. Wondering if the IPV6 update in version 5 is what is causing the problems…?
