Windows cannot acces the specified file.

I kept trying to change how the firewall interacts with Steam.exe. I want iComodo to ask each time Steam runs so that I can block it or let it connect to the internet as needed. Instead, and I don’t know how I did it, I get the following error:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

So Steam no longer runs. I tried to set up a custom policy and that didn’t work. How do I fix what I broke and how do I get Comodo to ask if Steam should run each time I start it? I’m using version 5.4.1------

Thanks.

Bump!

It sounds like a problem with D+ rule that is causing the “Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file” message. Start with deleting the D+ rule made for Steam.exe. Next time when you get a D+ alert allow or deny the action to happen and make sure to not let it remember the answer.

I see you are using an older version of CIS. Is there a particular reason you are using it?

Why on earth would you want to treat steam as a “dangerous file”?
It starts when you decide to start it. (Disable auto start on boot up).

Use outgoing only rules, and steam will know where to connect. It would do anyway, even if you click allow for each single IP.

You gain no extra security with your attempt,
but you get mad.

No INgoing rule necessary.
