On a newly installed Windows 10, I get the error “This app can’t run on this PC. COMODO 8.0 doesn’t work on this version of Windows.” when I try to install COMODO.
I thought this would be a big problem that COMODO would mention a work around on the main site, but it says it’s compatible with Windows 10.
I check the forum hoping to see some big announcement about how to fix this, or noting the issue, but after many google and forum searches not finding anything much, in terms of an official fix or workaround.
I see this hack using WinRAR and unpacking the executable, but who is going to go through the trouble of doing all of that except a local COMODO customer or an advanced user?
Is there an official fix for this? Will it be addressed soon? Is there some setting in Windows 10 that I need to turn off to get COMODO installed?
I used COMODO 8 on Windows 10 without problems. Could you open the installer’s properties, go to Compatibility, and enable compatibility mode to Windows 7? Then try to install it again.

Do NOT install via a compatibility “install as Windows 7” setting. You need it to install natively - due to the low level nature of antivirus stuff, without compatibility shims in effect.
go to path cis > download > installs > xml_binaries > cis > cis_setupXY (64Bit or 32Bit) and you can install the full Security Suite
When you want only the firewall, next steps:
go to (i don’t know, how the names are in englisch) Systemsteuerung > Programme und Features > COMODO Internet Security > on top “Change” > Change and remove hook at “Install Comodo Antivirus” > Next (see Screenshots in German Post #17)
I installed CCAV and decided to install just the Firewall along side it, so I went to Comodo and downloaded just the firewall itself. The system requirements in the description say it’s compatible with Windows 10 32 and 64 bit. But then when I went to install it, Windows tells me it’s not supported on this version of Windows. Then I downloaded the same file but under a different name thinking I got the wrong version. So please change the description. I’m sure users are tired of downloading incompatible versions of redundant software. I ended up downloading basically half a gigabyte of junk.
So, COMODO Firewall isn’t compatible with Windows 10!?
I tried: cfw_installer_6103_a6.exe and cfw_installer_6106_53.exe from the COMODO website, and cfw_installer.exe (version 8.2.0.5005) from MajorGeeks.com, and all result in this message:
“This app can’t run on this PC. COMODO 8.0 doesn’t work on this version of Windows.”
Did you get the big update of the fall with all the subsequent updates? Can you tell what build it is? How to do this? Start the command prompt and run the following command: winver .
Can you check the version information in the properties of the CIS installer(s) you downloaded? That is to ascertain that the proper version is being served.
The installers from the forum, cfw_installer_6103_a6.exe and cfw_installer_6106_53.exe ( I downloaded this one from Comodo after a google search) are the same files. I compared the file hashes and their SHA-1 hash is D1720B8FFE3A190A4E75812B6CF886DD5D3E43A9.
Can you check the file hashes of the installer you got? I use Hashtab for this purpose.
cmd_fw_installer.exe (link): 8426A540F962AF0DA345DA77DA318259 – this is the one that worked
…So, I just tried re-naming “cfw_installer_6103_a6.exe” and “cfw_installer_6106_53.exe” to something else (just randomly typed some characters in on my keyboard–note that this doesn’t change the hash), and that did the trick: Windows didn’t block it and it started the installation process as normal.
Thank you for looking up the file hashes and changing the file names. I suspected that Windows 10 looks at the file names. It is strange though that CPF gets flagged.
