Does a wildcard cert for *.mysubdomain.mydomain.com work for the server ‘mysubdomain.mydomain.com’ ? If not, do I have to buy a separate cert?

A wildcard certificate for *.mysubdomain.mydomain.com will not work for the server ‘mysubdomain.mydomain.com’
Only where the * is replaced by a name will the wildcard certificate work.
The best plan would be to have the domain as www.mysubdomain.mydomain.com (or something where the * is replaced by a name.
That way you can use the wildcard certificate and don’t have extra expense of a second certificate.
