Why unscheduled full scan?

I have CIS set up to run one full scan and three quick scans a week, all during the morning or early afternoon. For example, there was a succussful full scan at noon on Sunday. However, since updating from Win 8 to 8.1 and reinstalling Comodo, it starts a another full scan around 11pm on Sunday nights. There’s nothing under Custom > Schedule about this scan. What am I missing? Thanks,

Good Day;

I’m assuming you are using the latest 6.x Version; Please open CIS > Tasks > Advance Tasks > > Advance Settings > Security Settings > Antivirus > Scans, Do you see anything here?

Also, If you don’t see anything here If you could check Windows Scheduler and see if its there as well (Easiest way of doing this is Start > Programs > Accessories > Task Scheduler > Task Scheduler library > Comodo)

Thanks…Jake

Thanks. That screen doesn’t show the extra scan (and only shows ending times of the tasked ones). I’m drawing a blank right now on what all I did right after starting this thread to get it to stop the extra one, if anything (Last week I had shoulder surgery followed by a partially collapsed lung, and must still be hungover). I did look in Task Scheduler, though in Win 8.1 they’ve made it much harder to read. I do know that the extra scan didn’t occur this past Sunday, although I’m forgetting if I turned off the computer just before it would have.

Btw, where are the logs for the scans, i.e., showing the results? In the main log file, I only see summaries for real-time prevention.

Sorry to hear about the surgery; Cheers to a speedy recovery.

You may press Windows Key + R to bring up the Run Dialog and copy and paste the following
“C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cis.exe” --logsUI=ShowAvEvents
This will bring up the Event Viewer for CIS

The Scheduled Scans should be listed in the “Scans” Section in the Antivirus Settings as stated above.

Hope this helps.

Jake

Not in the best of senses: by default the user has to assume there is something or nothing found by reference to the last items’ dates, since there’s no explicit scan report.

In addition, there’s still a date bug in at least that part of the program: If I use the calender to select 11/1/13 as the start of the period and leave 12/4/13 as the end, then click on Enitre Period, when the results show the starting date has changed to 12/6/2012. I tried it three times to be sure.

I’m unsure what you are trying to achieve. Could you elaborate on what times you wish for it to schedule so I can see if it works on my end as well

Here is the help documentation for scheduling a scan >CLICK HERE<

Hope this helps

The problem is not scheduling scans, but seeing results. I raised this because I don’t see any explicit results page or entry. And the Antivirus events log box just shows dates things were found - realtime or scan is not specified. Btw, how does one get to that box without using Run and the full path?

Now, the bug I’m referring to can be seen in the attached screenshots. The first shows my selection of dates; the second is what dates Comodo has changed the first date to after clicking on “Entire period.”

Ah, I see; thanks for clearing this up.

I tried to reproduce the viewing under certain dates and could not come up with the same result (Try to run Diagnostics via CIS> Circle Help Icon > Support > Diagnostics) - Attached picture is my result of not being able to find them.

Further More; Scheduled scanning will be shown in “Tasks” Section of the event viewer; it will have the parameter (name of the scan) shown.

Hope this helps

OK, I think I’ve gained more clarity on both matters:

  • On the regular log screen, the scan results are given under the Additional Info column under Tasks, e.g., “Found 0.” The thing I don’t know is if it would show, or where it would show specifics, if that Found > 0; I havn’t had any since the Win 8.1 reinstall

  • On the Viiew Logs screen with the dates issue, if a date is changed the program adjusts what’s showing on the fly. OYOH, that “Entire period” choice is apparently meant to show everyhing since CIS was installed. That’s not obvious to users and why in my case it would switch to 2012 isn’t either; No results before Oct 18, 2013 show. Diagnostics found no errors.

Good Afternoon;

It will show how many it does find, and it will look like the following picture that is attached, and In the “Antivirus” Events it will show more details.

If you would like to suggest the wording to be changed please post in the “Wishlist” Area that can be found >HERE<

Hope this helps

Thanks…Jake

Well, here’s the catch: in my View Logs screens, there are some things caught and quarantined under Antivirus events but none under Tasks. So do I take it those former are only realtime catches? And in your two screenshots, the way you know the two screenshots are or are not related is by looking at their date/times? As a user, I’ve been assuming there would be a consoldiated scan result screen or page, not pieces that need putting together from different screens. Or have I missed something?

Maybe this will shine some light on the topic;

Comodo Antivirus documents the results of all actions performed by it in extensive but easy to understand reports. A detailed scan report contains statistics of all scanned objects, settings used for each task and the history of actions performed on each individual file. Reports are also generated during real-time protection, and after updating the antivirus database and application modules.
Comodo Internet Security records a history of all the CIS tasks like virus signature database updates, scans run and so on. The 'Tasks Launched' log window displays a list of tasks launched at various time points with their completion status and other details.

Please View View CIS Logs, Firewall Software, Log Monitor, Defense+ Filter|Internet Security v6.2
For More Information

Tasks are scheduled stuff Updates/Scheduled Scans/Installs

Antivirus is just that anything that deals with the antivirus going into action (Detections/Deletions ETC ETC)

I surely do hope this helps ya.

Jake

By “easy to understand reports,” where? Do you mean the log one gets by exporting the log results of a single scan? That shows a line listing of all Tasks launched since Nov 1, not just that scan for 12/4.

By “Easy To Understand Reports” meaning it’s pretty organized unlike other complicated AV Products and you can find the information you are looking for rather easy.

Jake

Thanks for trying to help, but I really don’t think you understand. I must admit complete frustration because here I am having to type the same basic question over and over again with one hand, not getting any closer to an answer from you, i.e., where the “easy to read” scan result reports are located. The closest we’ve gotten is results divided between screens that one has to search out for themselves and then assume are related, or an exported file that single line lists everything from all dates it decides to include, not what I requested. That Help text you posted was devoid of any specific help, just marketing and description.

I’m sorry that I’m unable to assist you in this matter, I’ve asked other mods to chime in.

I will make a summary of all the questions you have asked and the answer pertaining to them

Q: how does one get to that box without using Run and the full path? ::: Referring to Event Viewer for CIS
A: CIS > Tasks > View Logs

Q: On the regular log screen, the scan results are given under the Additional Info column under Tasks, e.g., “Found 0.” The thing I don’t know is if it would show, or where it would show specifics, if that Found >0
A: For a SCHEDULED Scan it will show on The Event Viewer for “Tasks” will show whether or not if has found anything and if not it will show 0
For REALTIME/On-Access Scan it will show under “Antivirus” Events

Q: On the Viiew Logs screen with the dates issue, if a date is changed the program adjusts what’s showing on the fly. OYOH, that “Entire period” choice is apparently meant to show everyhing since CIS was installed. That’s not obvious to users and why in my case it would switch to 2012 isn’t either; No results before Oct 18, 2013 show. Diagnostics found no errors.
A: It does show on the fly, and Entire period does show since install date or last time you cleared the logs manually

Q:, there are some things caught and quarantined under Antivirus events but none under Tasks. So do I take it those former are only realtime catches?
A: Tasks will just show the scheduled scan and if it found anything by showing how many items has been found 0,1,2 etc etc
Antivirus will show Quarantined items/removed items/ detected items etc etc

Q: And in your two screenshots, the way you know the two screenshots are or are not related is by looking at their date/times?
A: Yes They are related as my Scheduled Scan Found 1 Item and that will be shown in the Tasks because it was a scheduled scan
and It will show the details (File Location/Malware Name/Size Etc etc under Antivirus Events

Q: As a user, I’ve been assuming there would be a consoldiated scan result screen or page, not pieces that need putting together from different screens. Or have I missed something?
A: It’s split up because tasks are for scheduled events such as Updates/ Scheduled Scans (Weekly/Monthly/Daily/ETC)/Etc
Antivirus Events are for Detection and the Action that was taken for that detection

Tasks = Scheduled Scans Only (Plus other operations such as Updates and Installs etc)

Antivirus = For BOTH Scheduled Scans(IF FOUND ANYTHING) & Realtime/On-Access/Stateful and The Actions that are to follow (Delete/Quarantine)

So you create a scheduled scan and name it “Test Scan”; When “Test Scan” Starts it will create an event in the TASKS Section, Once completed it will be noted in the same event. If it was a clean scan and nothing was found a “Found 0” will be placed in the “Additional Information” Column and Nothing Will Be Reported to the Antivirus Section

IF Something was found lets say 15 Infected Items, The Tasks Section will report “Found 15” and in the Antivirus Section you can see each individual item.

Again, Another Moderator may take a look at this and see if he/she can answer it better.

Thanks…Jake

Chiming in I see the following two key posts:

This is something odd. A second scan at the same day that is not showing up. In the interface it is not even possible to schedule two tasks at the same day.

I think the part in bold hits the nail on the head. I don’t think there is consolidated result page for scheduled scans in the Log Viewer. I never realised that because I don’t use scheduled scans. I always run manual.

But since a consolidated result page for scheduled scans are missing, unless somebody shows me otherwise, your observation would be worthy to be made a wish in Wishlist - CIS.

Do you have other questions or observations that I may have missed in my summary or you would like to add?

Yes, very odd. Just came back to computer and found second full scan over four hours in, which means it started an hour or two after the scheduled full scan had completed. No clue why. There had been a reboot in there, but it had been done after the first scan completed and the results had been taken care of - in fact, restart on Comodo’s instructions.

Also odd: First scan found 751 items, but all were already in Comodo quarantine in Shadow Copy. First time I’ve seen that.

Weird things going on.

Can you check with Windows Task Scheduler to see what the setting for the full system scan are? May be something can be learned there.

Take a look at the screenshot. Even though Windows Defender is not running at all, it looks like it has been set up to do scans, starting yesterday. But since this has been going on for awhile, I have to wonder if that’s it, but I don’t see any other entries that might be it. In any case, I disabled Win Defender task for the screenshot, but the time on the right showing it started around 5pm yesterday corresponds to what I found - but in Comodo! Why would a Windows Defender task show as running in Comodo Task Manager?
