Why BOClean???

Sullo, I had to uninstall BOClean because it had an error message repeatedly occurring and to uninstall and re-install was to me the easy way to correct my problem. Any way rather than use Control panel>Add/Remove, I used the uninstall option in the main menu. It worked great. 8)

Well done folks, you convinced me. BOClean will from now on protect my system from the baddies out there. It can be installed in safe mode, can’t it?
Thank you everyone for helping me this much.
Here’s to you :■■■■

I want to add :

  1. BOClean resets the hostfile to its default, NOT to as it was before the Malware got into your system. So when you have a custom hostfile it will be deleted as well. So keep a copy of your custom hostfile so you can place it back when needed.

  2. Clean up of ActiveX downloads means that the ActiveX cash is cleaned, NOT already installed ActiveX plugins. So nothing to worry about.

Greetz, Red.

Just wanted to give you a short update on my experiences so far:
Installed BOClean in safe mode - no problems whatsoever!
Rebooted system - BOClean did exactly as described in the manueal, perfect!
CPU usage: BOC423.exe = 0% (2-10% when flashes green)
COCore.exe (0%) - wonderful! :BNC
Light on resources and hopefully a good supplement to my already installed security progs.
IT’s really a pity CAVS didn’t work for me.
However, I’ll give further feedback when I’ve used BOClean a little longer.
Thanks for helping me on this one,
grampa.

EDIT:
I still hope someone will eventually come up with an answer to the redundancy-of-BOClean-once-COMODO Firewall v.3.0-will-be-released question asked in my first post.

Hi Grampa

There are 3 main levels of layers when deploying security

1)Prevention
2)detection
3)Cure

CPF v3 will do mainly Prevention using HIPS and Detection using its Firewall (eg: someone trying to ring home etc… do u want to allow kind of alerts). AVs do detection also and so does BOClean.(actually there was a poster recently posted where he had an AV running but still had some malware that BOClean caught and his AV didn’t etc… ). So in this layered defense, you need to use good prevention CPF v3 is enough for that… good detection: a good AV and a MUST HAVE BOClean (and of course in this layer you can go crazy and have all sorts of other detection tools) and a firewall (of course that will be provided by CPF v3).

Once you have the above, you will have a pretty decent protection and if your machine is clean when you install CPF v3 then it will be pretty difficult to get it infected…but you do need a layered system just to be sure…

Wow, that was one very prompt reply if I ever saw one! And a very informative one, too. Cheers Melih (L) As I’ve written above I’ve just installed BOClean and encountered no problems so far. BTW, EricEgan posted in this thread too (which was one of the main reasons for my decision to give BOClean a try, which I’m sure is a very smart one).
Can’t wait until CPF v3.0 (or whatever name it will eventually have) is released.
Keep up the excellent work and be assured I’ll spread the word.

Thanks Grampa…
We look forward to your continued involvement in making our products better.

thanks

Sorry everybody dunno what I was on but that post was a bit jumbled.
BOclean wasn’t a problem, this little startup manager thingy I installed caused the problems. It chewed up my sys tray icons. When I finally got it removed and restarted, boclean and some other icons weren’t showing, all processes were running just no icons.
After stopping boclean processes it removed perfectly form add/remove and reinstall was fine and as of today running perfectly.
I’ve had less problems removing and reinstalling comodo products than I’ve had with some other well known progs.
Just to let you know, in the first month of having cpf I broke it 4 times requiring reinstall.
So far I’ve only broken boclean once, but then again I’ve only had it on 3 days.
Sooooooo!! whats next I wonder?
They need a Betty Ford type clinic for people like me, addicted to nifty sounding utilities.
That quote from Albert Einstien I posted earlier, I can see where he’s coming from now

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”

Sullo

I just wanted to thank you all again for providing such convincing argument FOR using BOClean.
I know that it’s only been protecting me for 2 days but I’m ever so happy it does.
Still no problems whatsoever, light on resources etc.
Though I cannot judge it’s efficacity by now as I haven’t yet got any alerts, I feel a lot safer using it. Once CFW v.3.0 will be released the feeling of protection (provided one uses “brain.exe”) will be overwhelming - at least for me.
Unless I experience any problems or life-saving-action (see EricEgan) you’ll not hear from me in this thread.
THANKS FOR YOUR GOOD ADVICE!!! that was the modification - it was good but not god(ly) advice, let us not exaggerate ;D
