Comodo is simply amazing, and I’ve been using the Firewall and eventually Defense+ when they first came out. But one thing keeps bothering me with every new version, and that’s the name changes.
I like to install and use applications with simple, non-confusing, and easy to remember names. I have absolutely no interest in products that use hyperbolical marketing ‘sizzle word’ name extensions.
Comodo Internet Security Premium Professional Plus Gold Platinum Advanced Ultra Express Deluxe Edition 2000 1337 LOL ROFL BBQ.
What makes this really disconcerting (besides the issue that everyone else is doing it) is when I suggest Comodo to people, many come back asking, “Where do I download the free version? I can only find the Premium version on their site?! =(”
I would even go so far as saying Internet Security is just a marketing copy-cat of Norton Internet Security (and everyone else who copied them) but at least it’s a reasonable and valid product name, as-is, no suffix needed.
Please drop the useless extension. There is nothing Premium about Comodo Internet Security, and it doesn’t need to be. Let it just be itself.

Where can I download the Non-Premium version? O0
(seriously; please drop the extension. it’s bad bad bad.)
I understand what you mean, I think they replaced “free” with “premium” to differentiate themself from other product, like Avast, where the free version isn’t complete.
CIS Premium is a complete package, with firewall, HIPS, sandbox and AV, and it’s free.
Avast free doesn’t have sandbox for example, you have to buy the Pro version (but they will change this in v6).
I’d be fine with “Comodo Internet Security” without premium or free, but they need to make sure that people understand it isn’t a cheap free product which lacks some features.
While I agree that CIS isn’t cheap quality-wise, I hardly believe sticking a tacky word at the end is going to make up any minds.
In my experience, only software companies that lack in quality find the need to use such buzz words. It’s like people to buy fancy cars to make up for their minuscule manhood.
IMO, Comodo was just trying to give it a complete and secure sense of feel for the user. The word free can sometimes have the sense that something is missing. IMO Comodo had the user in mind not marketing.
To Raccoon, I do respect your opinions and I do agree that fancy words can be used for marketing, I just don’t think it is in this case. Kind regards
I’m not entirely sure what you meant above. Fancy words can be used for marketing, but you don’t believe Comodo is using the word “Premium” for marketing purposes? Or you do believe in using “Premium” for marketing leverage?
Why should Comodo Internet Security require either word “Free” or “Premium”? I wish it were simply called Comodo Internet Security and that’s it. Same as Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. You don’t see any catchy marketing slang tacked to the end of software titles produced by professional software companies.
Would you download Google Chrome Ultimate? Would you scratch your head?
Personally, I believe Comodo simply tacked on “Premium” to one-up on Norton Internet Security. If that’s the case, this is purely marketing dribble and implies that the product doesn’t speak for itself.
If you agree with this statement, vote Yes to encourage Comodo to remove this lame and confusing cliche.
Hi Raccoon. Just my opinion I class Comodo as professional in every way, and they are just trying to show that it is a complete non hacked version with all its defenses still incorporated. If I saw Google Chrome ultimate I would just guess that more was incorporated in the browser eg built in ad block or a more customizable version just examples. I don’t really see much different from putting the word Essentials on the end of Microsoft Security. I do see the word Pro tacked on the end of a lot of paid products, is this marketing slang or just a way to say complete? Thanks and Kind regards

+1 , I was thinking of the same thing :)

Your poll has a interesting choice of words, you don't think your blowing this out of proportion??
Me(personally) I don't care what they call it, I think it's better that any free or paid product out there.
I wish it were simply called Comodo Internet Security and that's it
What should the paid version of comodo be called :)
Well I guess you must without even realising, because you read the topic and replied. For number 4 isn’t there a better way of wording it? Just my opinion. Kind regards.
As a tag on a free product it doesn’t really mean anything literally. If you think about it, “Premium” is an odd choice as it is commonly understood to be the price paid for brokerage or insurance or an extra charge for an extra level of service. but I think I’m over it now. ;D
I didn’t care much about this, but if i must choose, I choose to drop the catchy word such as premium, free, ultra, professional, elite, and so on. Just plain Comodo Internet Security for the main free version. You can add those fancy word in the paid version which include tech support.
There are many FREE products and many PREMIUM Products…
Unfortunately many companies have created FREE products that are somewhat less functional than their Premium products.
As you all know CIS is a full blown security application. We didn’t want people to confuse it thinking its a cut down version. Hence named it Premium. Because it does match (and some more) other Premium products.
