Website database update error

Hi,
For a few months now, I’ve been having problems with Comodo’s auto-update. I come home every day or every other day, and the standard taskbar icon has changed to an orange exclamation point. When I open Comodo, it tells me that the virus signature database in not up-to-date, and has a big orange button labeled Fix it!

Pushing the button initiates a manual update, where I get the following error:

Clicking through to the log is similarly unhelpful:

Searches for that particular error code turn up no information that is Comodo-related - though a lot for both Symantec & McAffee, neither of which has ever been installed on this computer.

I did search the forum, and found a post describing a very similar problem https://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-help-cis/update-website-database-error-0x800703ee-solved-t112546.0.html;msg816166#msg816166 but whatever version of Windows that user has, my Windows 7 doesn’t have a “Program Data” folder. I’ve searched through Program Files/Comodo, Program Files (x86), /App Data/Local, LocalLow and Roaming, and found none of what that user describes.

All this started when before updating the last version to (what I assume is) the current one. When the update didn’t fix the problem, I uninstalled Comodo, rebooted, ran two different registry cleaners, manually hunted down any leftover files/folders I could find, rebooted again, and then installed the current version.

Can someone help me get rid of this error? I don’t want to have to manually update every couple days any more.

You have to change view/Folder Options under Tools in Explorer to see hidden files to see /ProgramData see screenshot for how.

Here is original post for reference.

Hi,

The folder is called ProgramData and it exists on windows 7 too.
C:\ProgramData

OK, thanks to you both, I did find that folder. I went in there and deleted everything, and did my usual manual update. I got the same error as in my OP screenshot. And when I go back to that directory, it’s full again, of BASE_END_USER_v128 and BASE_UPD_END_USER_vXXX files.

Any other ideas? That BASE_END_USER file is the one that throws the error.

What is this websites database thing? How do I deactivate that from even being used? All I use is AV and Firewall.

Can you please post screenshot of error showing which file is the problem.

It may be more than one all 0kb files are corrupt, you can delete just those if you wish or all of them.

Websites database is a different process.

Dennis

It’s the exact same error as the screencap in my OP. The file is

BASE_END_USER_v128.cav

and the error given is

Error: 0x80004005 - Unspecified error

And these aren’t 0KB files, btw. BASE_END_USER_v128.cav is 2,611KB, and all the BASE_UPD_END_USER_vXXX.cav files are anywhere from 1KB to 958KB. There isn’t a zero-sized file in the bunch.

Have you tried deleting all the files and then updating again?

Dennis

Multiple times.

I’ve even, as I stated in my OP, completely uninstalled all of comodo, rebooted, run two different registry cleaners and then hunted down all the loose files & folders I could find, rebooted, re-installed comodo, rebooted, and ended up with the exact same problem.

I apologise for not reading your first post correctly.

Though I would still have expected the same result as the antivirus update deleting the files would have cleared the problem not sure why it has not.

If you would consider making a bug report here though please note you do have to use the require Format here.

Dennis

PS Will try to see if I can get the file which is causing the problem if I can.

Awesome! I’ll look into making that bug report right now.

Thanks
