I want someone to tell me WHY I have NO CONTROL OVER NEWLY INSTALLED APPLICATIONS
I just installed a new app, it activated my laptop camera and when I looked at the COMODO firewall it had added permission for the app to have access to the Internet. So now my pic is on the net, WHY
WHY HAVE A FIREWALL IF IT DECIDES WHAT CAN HAVE ACCESS TO MY PC!!!
ANSWER PLEASE
and before you delete this Im not having a pop at Comodo, Im having a pop at ALL commercial firewalls that include safe trusted lists and YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TURN THEM OFF - SELL OUT SELLING OUR PRIVACY!
Go on then I WANT AN ANSWER! if you can!
I have turned OFF Defence Plus, I have told my FIREWALL to ask in ALL CONDITIONS and yet IT STILL DECIDES WHEN A NEW APP IS INSTALLED AND I HAVE TO GO BACK AND TELL IT NO!!!
My only way round this is to turn OFF internet, install and change Firewall settings to BLOCK then turn on Internet again!, but then have you ever noticed unfathomable named apps with internet access, wondered what they are up to, let me tell you.
Say you install a program and stop its access to the net, bypass it - simple they create a new APP and the firewall lets it through, so even if you explicitly told YOUR FIREWALL TO STOP AN APP, THEY BYPASS IT BY CREATING A NEW ONE!!! I cannot see how any firewall can be called a firewall IF IT ISNT CONTROLLED BY YOU THE USER!!!
But if they have sold out (which they have, tested on ZoneAlarm, Windows, Comodo and a few lesser known ones, ALL BEHAVE THE SAME!!!)
You know what I think, THEIR COMMERCIAL BUDDIES ARE LOOSING TOO MUCH MONEY by pirates and they have come to a deal! Of cause we are not allowed into this deal but the Commercial software suppliers are colluding so protect their products - Ok I hear you say, that’s fair enough but I have just had my privacy VIOLATED by a company called **** well it does not matter but they aint small.
The Point is NO PERSON ALIVE CAN TRUST THESE COMPANIES, THEY EXIST TO MAKE PROFIT AND THAT IS THE ONLY REASON THESE PEOPLE EXIST - By doing what your doing your allowing them to spy on our behaviour, compiling databases of us purely for the purpose of extracting as much money out of us as possible, PROFITS!!!
Commodo, I ASK YOU AGAIN, HOW DO I STOP PROGRAMS INSTALLED ON MY PC FROM MAKING CONTACT WITH THEIR AUTHORS AND TRANSFERRING MY PROPERTY(DATA) TO THEM!!
It takes 30 seconds to configure the firewall to ask for every application that needs access. Moreover, you can control to which IP Address and port said application is allowed to connect to.
Instead of ranting, you could simple have asked how…
You think for a second I have not got this thought through, this has been going on for me for months as I try to find a Firewall that HAS NOT SOLD OUT!
to date I have NOT found one, Im now trying Open Source as they WILL NEVER SELL OUT!
and so once more: Commodo, I ASK YOU AGAIN, HOW DO I STOP PROGRAMS INSTALLED ON MY PC FROM MAKING CONTACT WITH THEIR AUTHORS AND TRANSFERRING MY PROPERTY(DATA) TO THEM!!
Another Example:
I install a program, say prog1.exe and it asks for internet access, I state NO and tell it to remember it.
Then I use the program and re-visit my Network Security Policy and see another APP there called say prog2.exe, so I ban that and use the program again and there in the Network Security Policy is another app called say prog3.exe with access to the net. I CANNOT CONTROL THEM IF THEY CONTINUOUSLY RE-INVENT THEMSELVES!!
Does entering GAME MODE override your Network Security Policy?
I have found that the Firewall behaves totally differently when in Game Mode. It would take me a second as a programmer to enter in an instruction telling the App to wait until this occurs to change Network Security Policies.
WAKE UP USERS, This is a deliberate change in policy for these Commercial Firewall providers
They have decided covertly to change how your data is protected, they have sold this idea to us as Defence + or Safe Lists, Trusted Software providers and a myriad of other snazzy terms, what they are really doing is providing a ‘Backdoor’ to the Trusted people (who just happen to be some of the most powerful and wealthy people in the world) to have access to your thoughts, desires and ambitions.
I CANNOT THINK OF ANYONE ON THE PLANET I WOULD TRUST LESS THAN PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE MOST!
I would have thought that was obvious to anyone,
Delete any existing application rules
Done three times,
In Firewall Behaviour settings, set the slider to Custom Policy mode
Done since I installed
In Firewall Behaviour settings/Alert settings, move the slider to very high
Done three months ago when I came here for help, which by the way FAILED!
In Firewall Behaviour settings, uncheck the box, create rules for safe applications
Done from the day I installed,
as I said, your advice is either wrong or misleading! and if Im mad then its only to be expected when you install something that professes to do a certain job and (as a programmer) I see it behaving in a deliberately misleading way, ie I do something but it has no effect on what it states it does!
My advice is neither wrong or misleading. if you wish to have control over which applications may connect and how they may connect, I have shown you the way.
Failure to understand how something works does not make it misleading or ineffectual.
before you get lost in creating a whole own world around a personal settings problem in a software,
go through the settings and look what could be the reason.
as my setting is exactly like i want, and asking for outgoing for everything… its not a hidden secret in the world that let you having a problem with your firewall.
its just the setting.
and dont use game mode… maybe its like trainings mode… maybe you forget while installing to switch back… maybe you dont press all the ok buttons.
MrEngland: If you had thought this through carefully then surely you would have realised that a bug or user error is clearly possible, especially since there are no other reports (topics) on this issue. If you wish to move Open Source, then that is fine. Let me give you a helping hand. If you wish to resolve this issue, that is also fine. But, ranting like this is neither helpful or constructive.
Which CIS Configuration are you currently using and is Game Mode still activated?
The polite ‘Washing of Hands’ yes ok I realise you cannot point out things here that may make your product shine less than it does but I think I have solved YOUR problem,
I have, quite by mistake found out that when in Game Mode your Network Policy mean NOTHING!
If you delete your Network Security Policy and enter Game Mode, then ALL apps have their own say!!!
And you state that none of what you said was wrong!!
that was one of my questions and YOU failed to answer it! but hey, Im not here to point out Your flaws,
I will return in ONE MONTH when I have had time to monitor your software for other FLAWS!!
MrEngland,
At least I am prepared to ask the questions no one else seems capable of spotting!
When your Firewall enters Game Mode, IT DON’T MATTER WHAT YOU WANT - YOUR FIREWALL DOES WHAT ITS PROGRAMMERS TOLD IT TO DO!
before i make a setting (example, thinking about using game mode), i would try to understand what i am doing. of course you can make a weak setting. you can even make a hole in a firewall, its your choice.
but you can also make it close.
you have the unluck to want to have a paranoid setting (which is easily make able) while not knowing exactly what you do. look, you can even enable a cloud feature, and it could upload files for investigation. the firewall default is made to give people protection who have no idea. if people with no idea make settings because they get asked for everything, THEN they can make mistakes (HOLES).
people who want to have control can have it, others are ok protected per default. its your choice, one of them needs understanding of what you are about to do.
even the most secure car can be driven into a tree… if you dont know what the driver wheel is doing.
Washing hands? Only read half a paragraph much? You should probably note that currently nobody who has answered your topic works for Comodo. We’re all just users like yourself. As for Game Mode, as far as I know it does what is says it does in the Help documentation. I’ve just tested what you said was the problem (as far as I can determine, I did not use Game Mode) and I’m currently not able to reproduce what you’re seeing.
When your Firewall enters Game Mode, IT DON'T MATTER WHAT YOU WANT - YOUR FIREWALL DOES WHAT ITS PROGRAMMERS TOLD IT TO DO!
Oh dear!
The point of games mode, is to allow people to play games without interruptions, for things like firewall alerts. If you’d configured the system the way I suggested, then even if you’d been in games mode, any application for which a rule had not previously been configured, would have been prevented from accessing the Internet, until an alert had been answered.
I’ve made a picture for you. See the configuration of CIS, it’s in game mode. See the browser trying to make a connection, it doesn’t have a rule in the firewall. See the alert asking me if I wish to allow the browser to connect. It does that because it doesn’t have a rule in the firewall.
First up I would imagine disabling defense+, would dimish control over TVL. !ot! 2nd I don’t quite understand the problem here and I am not willing to try with that attitude. If you are here to badmouth Comodo, please don’t. If you are here to find solutions to specific problems, to help with specific problems, to learn, teach or simply interact with other Comodo users go right ahead. If you have specific problems and ask in a reasonable manner for help you will find the users, the mods and in some situations Comodo staff will do their very best to help. No one is here to sell anyone else out or any thing like that.
Please reconsider the manner in which you ask for answers and you might be surprised at the help you receive. I am not having a go at you and I am sorry to here of your problems, but please use a different tone if you want all the help that is available. Thanks, Kind regards and all the best to you.
