Hello,
I have two problems with CIS 6 Firewall on Windows 8 x64.
First - it doesn’t recognize VPN networks.
I used OpenVPN and when I were connected to networks, Comodo didn’t inform me about new network / no alert with zone/profile to choose. I made these connections manualy by windows network center - the same, no reaction. So… Comodo doesn’t filter VPN networks?
Second - when I’ve already choose profile type, I can’t do this anymore.
Example: on home I use wifi and I choose home profile. When I connected to other network and would like to share files with friends, can’t choose home profile again - I can choose only public or work.
If I choose work, on next network can’t choose home and work… only public.
It’s strange. In old Comodo I could have many public/home/work profiles.
I tried to reinstall CIS, without result.
There shouldn’t be any problems detecting a new VPN, providing you don’t already have a network zone using the same IP block.

Of course, Windows FW is disabled.
Detection of new networks and prompts for new zones are based on the underlying IP address of the network detected. Here’s a very simple example:
You have installed CIS and received the initial New Network alert. The IP block specified in the alert is:
192.168.1.1/24
A Netwok zone is created based on your selection from the alert:
Home
Work
Public
In the case of Home and Work, firewall rules are also created.
Later, you move to a new location and connect to a public WiFi network. This location has a different IP block:
10.10.10.1/24
Because the IP block is different, you should receive a New Network alert.
Once again, a new zone will be created and, depending on your choice, new firewall rules added.
At aanother location, you once again connect to a different network. this time, it’s a private network, with the IP Block:
192.168.1.10/24
On this occasion, you won’t receive any alerts, because a zone and possibly rules, already exist for this block.
The thing to realise here is, the majority of small private networks use the same IP block (192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0) so, once a zone and rules have been created once, moving between different locations with the same IP block, obviates the need to create new settings.
I have the same problem with the latest build of CIS as the OP.
I have the detect private networks settings enabled. The only Network Zones currently are a private 192.168.x.x/24 and the loopback zone.
If I connect to my work VPN using Shrewsoft (essentially the sameas OpenVPN) I am connected to a 10.x.x.x/24 network and CIS doesn’t report a new private network detected. This happens on 2 others PC’s I have with the same build as my main laptop. This problem didn’t occur in any CIS 5.x versions I used previously.
Think there is something not quite right with CIS 6.x
On 2 PC’s (one with Win7, the other running Win8 ) removed version 5, cleaned up the systems with ccleaner including the full reg options. The main PC was a fresh Win8 install, then fully patched then installed latest Comodo 6 build. All experience the same.
Can you please make sure that there are no left overs of previously uninstalled security programs around. Not all uninstallers do a proper job. Left over applications, drivers or services can cause all sort of “interesting effects”.
Try using removal tools for those programs to remove them. Here is a list of removal tools for common av programs: ESET Knowledgebase .
Reporting of bugs is strictly moderated to make sure Comodo gets clear bug reports. So, please make sure you closely follow protocol. That way your report will certainly be seen by Comodo staff.
