Virus Signature Update

I am a new user and need to update my Virus Signature. The box tells me I need to be connected to the internet but I am. Also if I access the URL it gives an error 405.

I am getting the same message that my update failed as am not connected to internet. Tried shutting down the computer but same message. Haven’t been able to update since august 25?? Help!

For the last two days when I try to update Comodo I get the message that the update failed and to check internet connection – nothing wrong with my DSL connection. I have Windows XP.

I made sure all windows updates were made and made sure to turn off the windows firewall. No luck.

I tried the suggestion in another thread posting to:
start > run > then I typed in: cmd
Then: ping download.comodo.com
I got the message: Ping request could not find host download.comodo.com

Next suggestion was to do a ‘clean install’
Could you tell me what a ‘clean install’ is?
When I went to comodo.com to try to re-install the free download it gives me the error message that server not found. This has now been an issue for a couple of days. Don’t think comodo.com would be down that long.

So I was thinking that perhaps using Foxfire made a difference so opened up the internet in Explorer and tried it all again. When I attempted to download this time the message was: Oops! This link appears to be broken.

Does this just happen on the free download or is it a problem with the purchased version as well?

Wilsonpa. Do you have other security programs running in the background? Which ones? What happens when you disable them? Does the problem go or persist?

At annadams. Try surfing to the websites of known anti virus vendors and see if you can access them or not. Try f.e.:

http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp

http://www.avira.com/en/pages/index.php

When you cannot access other vendors websites you are most likely infected with malware. If that is the case follow What to do if you’re infected - eXPerience Rev.3 guide.

I tried updating Comodo again today with the same result - no go.

It appears that I can reach the download pages on the other sites suggested. So based on that criteria I am not ‘infected’ I did NOT download any other security system. But at this point am wondering if I should.

I use AT&T as an internet provider. Would that matter?

I also tried Omelet Guy’s suggestions in a previous thread and get error messages when try to follow the links.
http://rapidshare.com/files/275285974/scanners.7z ERROR: Server not found

This is the first update of 3.11 downloaded by CIS:
http://download.comodo.com/av/updates311/sigs/bases/BASE_END_USER_v2176.cav Error The uploader has removed this file from the server.

I re-uploaded the scanners folder again:
http://rapidshare.com/files/276924368/scanners.7z

I downloaded that scanner… file. But it does not appear to be a file I can actually open. Not sure what to DO with it??
Then closed the computer and rebooted.
But STill same error message when I tried the update.

first of all, its the Scanners folder you have to extract it.

Use this program to extract it.
http://www.7-zip.org/

That web site gives me the option of 2 downloads
Am I downloading another program to do this? And which one?
How do I find the info on my computer?

Download .exe 32-bit 1 MB
Download .msi x64 1 MB

Since you have windows XP, its very likely you have 32Bit OS. Download the top one. (Download .exe 32-bit 1 MB)

OK it’s downloaded. So how does it work?

Ok, you have download my file already, so now right click on it and select 7-zip, then select "extract to scanners"

Now you will have to start windows in Safe Mode (do this by pressing F8 right after your PC boots up, and selecting Safe Mode)

And then copy the folder into (if this is you default CIS install location)
'C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security"

Hope this helps.

Right click options are:
extract file
extract here
extract 7zFM

No extract to scanners??

Use extract file.

Sorry i must have an old version.

Done. Now what?
I tried to run the update again but it didn’t change.
I do have the latest version of Comodo.

Thought I posted but it disappeared.
In safe mode I had to make a new folder in the CIS (Comodo Internet Security) folder and then copy and paste the other files to it in the CIS folder. I turned the computer off and on again and I ran the 7z465.exe

It didn’t seem to make any difference as got the same error message as before on update failing.

You did not need to make a new folder.

7zip should have extracted a folder, you would put the folder in “C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security”

If 7zip droped files and not a folder, the files go in. C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\scanners"

Hello Annadams,

There is something wrong with your DNS resolving.
The ping should have responded with:

C:>ping download.comodo.com

Pinging download.comodo.com [91.199.212.171] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 91.199.212.171: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=50

If this works your update will start working again.
Can you do the following open the command-box again and type:

ipconfig /all

and see what it shows on DNS Servers : … can you ping that ip address ?
can you type:

nslookup download.comodo.com 156.154.70.22

and see if that works ? this should resolve download.comodo.com using Comodo’s Secure DNS Server.

I’m having the same issues as annadams. Followed your suggestions to her and got the following:
