Hi all, Although I have just joined and I am looking for the solution here in the forums, I would be interested to know why, since three days ago, I get a failure in trying to update the VSD. As this has worked since I first installed Comodo ISP, has it been affected by a virus or some other such thing, or is it something else. Thanks for any help
Can you see what the installed database is? Look under More → About.
What error message do you get?
Same here, for 3 days now. Also, when I use the updater feature I get error 0x80072efe. I also can’t update my other two PC’s. I uninstalled CIS free on my main PC & installed the trial of CIS Pro - same problem. Is there a problem with the servers? Been using CIS for years, this is a first for me. Oh, and Geekbuddy were useless, uninstalled it after realizing they new nothing.
EDIT: Just tried manually downloading the defs from the comodo link at: http://download.comodo.com/av/updates51/sigs/bases/bases.cav - that is not working either, the link is down which makes me think there is a problem with Comodo’s servers. Help? Anyone?
Was hoping to install CESM this week but if I can’t update anything I think I’ll wait for a while…
there might be something wrong with your connection cuz i can access and download the database just fine
LOL. If there was something wrong with my connection I would not be able to write on the forum…Thanks anyway.
What is the error you get when trying to download the bases.cav?
Check for updates = “error 0x80072efe”
Antivirus update = “failed to update your virus defs. check internet connection & try again later”
manual download from Comodo Anti Malware Database Latest Version & Additions 2022 = “connection to the server was reset” (after a long wait)
This is happening on all of my PC’s, not just the one I’m using now. Nothing has been changed on any PC’s apart from my main PC (this one) since GeekBuddy gave me multiple BSOD’s while trying to fix the issue, I had to do a full system restore. Nice. Any ideas?
I’ve sent a PM with a few things to try. You might need to shout at your ISP as well. One thing you could try to get you updated quickly would be to download from the following link;
http://downloads.comodo.com/av/updates51/sigs/bases/bases.cav
Please be advised though that that is not an “official” download link and could change/die without warning. Long-term, fixing your issue would be the preferred option but that link may help get you protected in the meantime.
Cheers
Dave
Why are you pointing to the download url for versions 5.3 and 5.4 here? Just for testing?
Hrmmmm…
On the page Mightyred linked to is a link to download the complete AV bases which is a link to this file;
http://download.comodo.com/av/updates51/sigs/bases/bases.cav
That link points to our new download servers which seem to be causing him some issues. As a quick fix to update his protection I recommended he try to download the same file from a different server;
http://downloads.comodo.com/av/updates51/sigs/bases/bases.cav
Which is the exact same file but from a different download platform.
Unless I’m missing something (which is very possible!)
Cheers

BORDERSQURREL!!! That link you sent me is working!! At least I can get some protection now, thanks. Are you making any headway with the problem?
Thanks for the explanation.
For anyone following this thread who is still awake, I’ve been pointed to an excellent article by Ronny here;
It turns out that Mightyred actually needs the 5.5 bases so the link he provided (and thus my updated one) were incorrect (5.1 instead of 5.5)
Hopefully that link will help him (and maybe some other folk too!)

Final reply today before I go to watch the football
I’ve made a change to the configuration of our download mirrors. If anyone having problems (I’m looking at you Mightyred!) could try an automatic update again and see if it’s helped, it would be appreciated.
If one of our mods fancies jumping in here and helping Mighty post a screenshot of the output of PingPlotter from his PC to our server (us4.download.comodo.com) then that would be awesome!
Cheers
Dave
Same problem: I can’t update. Manual download failed too.
I have exactly the same problem as reported above. My VSD stopped updating on 20/8/2011. It says “Please check your internet connection and try again later”. Updating via the More Check for updates reports error 0x80072ee2.
This is not a problem with my desktop computer setup. I can’t download any files from Comodo at all - and I can’t on my laptop either unless I connect using dial-up.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled (using a download from CNET as Comodo would not let me download) but it has made no difference.
Comodo diagnostics reports no errors.
I am at my wits end, please help - it seems as if the Comodo servers are refusing to download via broadband. . .
I can now report that this problem has now gone away - I guess someone sorted out the download servers!
This problem has just started to effect me and my computers as well. While trying to manually update the AV database, it fails, but when I try to check for updates to the program itself, I get the “0x80072efe” error message. Anybody else with Verizon having this problem?
I’m having AV updates issues also… stuck on 9931 ‘failed to update’… no problem in the past.
Edit:
added ‘issues’
9938 here.
Are you running 5.8? if so can you please try to download this file using your browser?
http://us4.download.comodo.com/av/updates58/sigs/updates/BASE_UPD_END_USER_v9939.cav.z
for 5.5 try
http://us4.download.comodo.com/av/updates55/sigs/updates/BASE_UPD_END_USER_v9939.cav.z
Just to see if you can access the server
They seem to have switched download DNS urls, I couldn’t access us4.download.comodo.com after I fixed that it started working and downloading again.
