I am running XP and am having problems when I type into search engine and word documents. Everything I type is immediately deleted. Once this starts happening I cannot access any folders from the start menu. I am simply taken to the desktop. Thought this might be cause by a virus but computer clean according to cis and mbam. Could the keyboard drivers be malfunctioning? Any ideas what to do next?
I’d run these 2 first, then uninstall them when done using it and your computer is good to go
then

If you still think your infected, follow this link below

Good luck
Thanks for this. Have tried sugestions but no virus or malware detected.
If you tried the above and no go
Maybe a damaged file is the culprit
To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:
sfc /scannow
he main reason for using this utility is when you suspect there may be a problem with a Windows XP system file.Perhaps you get a dialog box appear informing you of a problem with a .dll file, or your program will just not load! It is therefore worth checking to see if there are any corrupt system files using scannow sfc.
This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.
If that doesn’t help, the only other thing I can think of right of hand is this
Repair Windows XP Files With the Installation CD # 1Back up all of your user files onto removable media such as CDs or DVDs. Find your Windows XP installation or recovery CD, and insert it into the optical drive that your computer can boot from. Click Start, then Turn Off Computer, then Restart to reboot your computer. When the “Press any key to boot from CD” message appears, press a key on your keyboard. Press “Enter” to start Windows XP setup, and press F8 to accept the licensing agreement.
2
Select the path of your Windows installation and press “R” to begin repairing it.
3
Follow the instructions provided by the Windows XP repair program and finish the reinstallation. Go to the Microsoft website and download Service Pack 2 from their website, then visit Windows Update to install Windows XP Service Pack 3, critical updates and Internet Explorer 7.
Sorry that it has taken so long to acknowlege your post. I have tried sfc /scannow and nothing doin so it looks like a full recovery. Thanks for all your help
Sorry that it has taken so long to acknowlege your post. It's all good. Hope the last method works for you because if that don't work then I don't know what to say. Reformanting maybe the only solution I know of,(but thats a pain in the ■■■■) and that should only be last resort. <---If you go that route, save all your improtant info, and know what your windows activation key is. If you don't know where it is ask here and well tell you. (Just let us know if you have window xp (home)or(Pro version) and (sp2) or (sp3). If you use microsft office (which one 97, 03, 07 2010, write that key those down too. and for all other software that you pay for. We can help you here, if there is something your not sure about or where to download something
If anybody here, has any ideas on how to fix “AnneRead” problems WITHOUT risking destroying windows, please help
If by any chance you speak french, I’ll advise you to visit this site http://www.informatruc.com/ .They have forums specialised in problems with XP and hardware.
Hi AnneRead,
Before suspecting viruses or malfunctioning driver and diving into that…
As far as I understand you are communicating from another computer at the moment … because we can read what you are typing
If not - that means that at least the input box of this forum does not delete “Everything you type … immediately”
If so, please be more specific about the Applications where that’s happening
-
What “Search engine(s)”;
-
If MS Word is misbehaving, the have you tried, any other editor(s) starting with simple Notepad;
-
is that any new symbol being deleted or just the next one existing (in this case the “Insert Mode” is active)
If that’s happening with any Apps
- have you tried to connect different keyboard and test ?
That’s for a start
Cheers!
p.s. in addition
You are running XP, but what platform?
What security is installed? What else is running in the background
… hmmm … 88) did you have any Alerts in the past where you could accidentally disable keyboard access to some specific Applications?
But he said that “Everything I type is immediately deleted”. What i can understand is he is able to TYPE and after he type everything gets deleted IMMEDIATELY. If it is a ‘KEYBOARD ACCESS’ problem, then that would prevent him from typing ANYTHING.
have you tired another keyboard just for the hell of it. IF another one works try uninstalling the keyboard drivers and installing the keyboard again. IF a usb keyboard try another usb slot.
Hi arjunpa,
Have you read my questions? Please do it again
Hi languy99 ,
The user did not answer any Q yet including the one that involves posting into this forum
Trying another keyboard was another suggestion posted
If the latter works - there is no need to uninstall /reinstall drivers even if a specific Software like “Intelli-Keyboard/Mouse” or alike… 88) from Logitech or whatsoever were installed previously
My regards
