Yesterday, Melih posted a link on Comodo’s Facebook page about Google’s New Desktop Strategy and said, “Google is now following on Comodo’s footstep and trying to build something similar to Virtual Kiosk!”
Here’s the blog post explaining the clear differences between Google’s Chrome Apps Experience and Comodo’s Virtual Kiosk that comes with CIS.
What idea exactly? While I can somewhat see the resemblance, I believe the purpose and workings of these two things are different. Melih has a few time said he’s just waiting for the patents before they release a new software (or similar to that) so I would assume Comodo has patents for this, however I don’t see what patent Google would be infringing.
Personally I won’t use google chrome apps or Virtual Kiosk. I won’t use google chrome apps because I don’t see the point of it and I view Virtual Kiosk as a GUI for the FV sandbox, something I’m not in need of (although I really dig the start button and taskbar in non-tablet mode of Virtual Kiosk)
Although since I’m currently having issues with my eyes I have only speed-read the link and not read into much detail.
Here’s another way of looking at the Kiosk - given that it is running in a fully virtualized environment and the floating keyboard is impossible to capture keystrokes from - these two factors make it an ideal platform for secure on-line financial transactions.
I already have keystroke encryption from another software and I expect the HIPS to notify me if any unknown program is trying to access the keyboard.
Besides, if the malware would be allowed then would it not be able to record video of the monitor? 88)
