Installed CIS_Setup_3.8.65951.477_XP_Vista_x64 and I viewed task managers processes,
and it still won’t allow 32-bit apps to run.
Hello Tenotic,
Can you please post the requested bug details ?
Did you do a clean install or update ? and/or use export/import ?
Can you also post all other security related software installed, it doesn’t have to be active realtime also on demand software can cause issues…
I can confirm this occurred on Home Premium 64 with Avira Antivir, Adaware Anniv Edition using UPDATE from 438 version. It did not start Mozilla or Antivir.
I uninstalled and then tried to do a clean install of 477 and it completely messed up my file system. I could not do a system restore as it corrupted just about everything. Only option was to reinstall OS, which I am now doing.
Hope that others have had better luck.
After upgrading (also tried clean install) from CIS 3.5 to CIS 3.8 I encountered the problem described above. Clean installation of 3.8.65951.477_XP_Vista_x64 did not solve the problem. I installed only the firewall in vista x64 ultimate.
The problem was solved after uninstalling Ad-Aware Free and re-installing CIS. I was also capable of re-installing Ad-Aware Free with no problems.
I’m finding that there are still quite a few application still not starting up with CIS 3.8.65951.477.
Just to give you an example, I decided to give some of my old games a whirl again for nostalgic sake. Tomb Raider 3, which I know runs fine on Vista x64 if you apply a patch from www.tombraiderchronicles.com, refused to run on 471 and now 477. If I uninstall CIS then it works beautifully. Yet, another old fav of mine, Grim Fandango, which didn’t work with 471 now works with 477.
The amount of false positives Im getting is also disconcerting, too many to count. Unfortunately, I’m kinda losing confidence in CIS and I’m hoping these things can be fixed soon, because its an awesome program.
Please post here the information about security applications and their versions installed on your machine. Do all of people having this problem have AdAware Anniversary Edition installed? Do you installed complete CIS suite or just Firewall&Defense+? Do you get 477 build first via update or you’ve installed it manually?
Mention also your OS and service pack.
As a follow up, my system info (BEFORE THE CRASH) was as follows:
Dell Dimension E521 running 64 bit Vista Home Premium SP1 with all Microsoft Updates, 4 GB RAM, Avira Antivir, Ad Aware Anniversary edition, Spywarebaster, Windows Defender.
My system crashed (even corrupted System Restore) after I did an administrator right click run after downloading 477 FULL 64-bit version, following an uninstall of 477 which was updated from 438 GUI (which did not work because programs were prevented from running - namely Antivir and Firefox at least).
disable all active AV scanners including AA AE, in particular the web scanner. (Ad-Aware AE and Avira are known to cause errors when installing CIS).
Never have more than one active scanner at a time running.
Try these and do a clean install. It (should) resolve your problems.
I don’t have Adaware installed and I am running Vista SP1.
The only other thing running is Windows Defender and even when that is switched off the above problems I mentioned still occur.
I also installed 477 from scratch on a freshly installed Windows Vista. The prior release had not been installed this time around.
I just installed 477 on a freshly installed Vista 64 Home Premium with all updates and it seems to be working fine (even with Antivir, which was disabled temporarily while installing CIS).
Is it now safe to install Ad Aware AE?
Does everyone who has this problem use Vista 64 SP1 HOME PREMIUM?
I have vista 64x home premium but i think i’ve seen other posts with some other versions of vista having this problem.
Actually, I answer my own question - it is not. I tried it and the same problems manifest themselves eventually. Ad Aware AE and Comodo are INCOMPATIBLE (have to choose one over the other).
One option is to stick with CIS v 439. They work well together there (even with Antivir thrown into the mix).
If you do use .439, don’t install the antivirus, since database updates are no longer offered for it.
I’m running it on Vista SP1, Enterprise, x64, UAC without problems.
Default install, D+ AAW* marked as Trusted Application.
Windows Defender default installed.
No other software
I experienced same problem.I when i start a game , screen turns black, hangs, and keyboard isn’t working. Fixed it by deactivating Avira Antivir while installing Comodo.
I’m using Vista X64 ultimate SP1.
So if i understand this correctly you had Avira disabled during install, you rebooted you system when CIS asked, and after reboot you enabled Avira and now it all works ? Can you please post your Current Avira version and what stuff is “active” in it ?
I’m sorry Ronny but it happened again. here’s what happened:
- clean install comodo Version 3.8.65951.477 reboot.
- install Game A, and run. Defense+ pops up (only once) then clicked allow. Game A hangs
3 clean install comodo with Avira guard decactivated. then reboots, - Run Game A. Defense+ pops up serveral time. clicked allow and Game A works.
- I just installed another game today. runs Game B Defense+ pops up (only once)
- Game B runs. screen turns black, hangs, and keyboard isn’t working.
Can you manually add the rules from D+ before you run the games (this happened to me. It seemed as though the alerts were behind the game screen so I couldn’t see them. Manually adding the rules in D+ resolved the issue for me).
Just a thought.
