v.295 useless to me

Well, for some reason the latest version, .295, is useless for me. I first did the upgrade through CFP (v.277) and after rebooting I got a black screen where only my mouse pointer appeared. I thought that this might be a conflict with PC-Cillin Internet Security Suite 14 so I un-installed it and also un-installed CFP. I downloaded v.295 and installed it fresh. After rebooting I got the same issue with the black display and only my mouse cursor showing.

To get access to my system I had to reboot into Safe Mode. For some reason when I reboot into Normal Mode then I get the black display.

Now I don’t have a firewall or a virus program.

If anyone has had a similar issue let me know how you resolved it. Otherwise I will wait for the next upgrade to see if it resolves it for me.

Maybe a stupid question but do you have PC-Cillin’s firewall turned off?

When you re-install you need to search your computer for anything named “Comodo” and delete it. There are some directories left behind in your application data folder etc that cause conflicts when you try to re-install it without removing them.

295 is a good improvement over the previous version in my opinion. It is possible that there is a conflict with PC-Cillin and Defence+ Try installing it with Defence+ Disabled.

Eric

The last time that I tried to install the new version I had completely removed PC-Cillin from my computer.

I will see if there are any remnants of CFP like you said and remove them before trying again.

I agree. .295 is buggy. Stick with .277.

I will reinstall v.277 if I can find where to download it.

Try this.

Al

I did a complete uninstall of .295 and .277. Cleaned up all registry entires and now .295 is working like a charm. I do admit there seems to be some bugs in this new version. (CLY)

hi Vettetech

can u expand a bit more where you might think there is a bug pls. we’ll surely look into it…
thanks
Melih

There seems to be alot of bugs Melih. Look at the posts. For one after installing .295 most people cannot boot up. My XP loading screen looped over and over. That was the first install of .295. The other bug is that Logitech Setpoint keeps coming up as a suspicious attempt in D+ when Setpoint is trusted and should be whitelisted. Here is a pic.

Melih:
I have posted what happened to me in the thread entitled “Where may I find a copy of v3.0.15.277?”.

There surely is some serious problems with V3.0.16.295. I have used Comodo since V2 and never had a single serious problem to report but today at one time I thought my PC was wrecked.

Hold on guy!!!

While I appreciate your problem, you say MOST people can’t even boot. Well there are THOUSANDS who download and install without major problems.

Get a grip, now. There’s a problem for you, and for some others, that is clear. I don’t give Comodo A+ grades for it’s release policies which often seem to be hurried a bit, but by and large the software works well and this forum is evidence of a real desire and willingness to respond to users. FAR better than many other software providers. AND this is FREE software after all.

I have given up trying to load v.295 or v.277. They both seem to be giving me the problem that I stated in the original post here. I have realized that the black screen with the mouse pointer is the point where Vista starts to load. For some reason it get’s stuck there. Also if I try booting up with ‘Safe Mode with Network’ I get the same issue as a normal boot. The only way I can get back into Vista is going through ‘Safe Mode’.

I find it interesting that I have never had any problems with CFP, even v.277 until I tried to install v.295. Now even v.277 does not work for me for some reason. I will just have to wait till the bugs get worked out of v.295 and try again.

We are not picking on Comodo. Just trying to help out Melih. Comodo is the best firewall out there. I have tried many and I feel safest with Comodo. If we do not point out things then how are they gonna be addressed. (S)

Since I am unable to use CFP at the moment I decided to turn on Windows firewall (better than nothing). Well, I found something interesting. Windows security center says that CFP is turned on. I don’t see why because I have uninstalled CFP completely from my computer. Could that be what is causing my problems?

Excuse me please, I have had so many problems with my system these last couple of days that I had just forgotten to take down any of the BSODs from the last update to v3.0.16.295. That one is a very BAD release. I posted some of my problems in a different Topic, Help for v3 thread “Re: Where may I find a copy of v3.0.15.277?” if you are interested.

Would like to thank “adric” for the link to return to Comodo Firewall Pro as I had updated to that version and did not have the download to regain some protection. ‘Adric’ you are a life saver and many, many, many thanks for that link. One last point, for adric, sorry for placing your NICK in red, just wanted it to stand out.

Thank you for reading this posting,

Thats normal. You need to kill the WMI service. Type services.msc in run. Then find the Windows Management Instrumentation service and stop it. Then go into C/ Windows/System32/Wbem and delete the repository folder. Reboot and all is well. (CLY)
