Utorrent stalls if downloading a torrent containing an .exe file

I have been happily using CIS 3.8.65951.477 since it was released, but I think I have uncovered a problem when using Utorrent.

My system is as follows:
CPU Intel core2 duo
OS. Win XP Pro SP3 - Admin account
CIS 3.8.65951.477 (no other security s/w running - Windows firewall turned off)
All D+, FW and AV settings at default (ie.Clean PC, Safe Mode and enabled)

Symptoms are as follows:

I have never had a problem downloading a torrent containing .iso, .zip, .rar etc.

Yestserday I tried to download a torrent which contained a 460Mb .exe file.

The file started downloading fine, but after a few minutes I noticed that there was a lot of disk activity and then Utorrent came up with an error saying that the donwload couldn’t continue because another application was accessing the download file.

I restarted the torrent and it continued for another few minutes and then exactly the same thing happened.

I then opened task manager to see if there was some application which could be causing the problem.

I noticed that cmdagent was sitting normally at around 1500k and 0-1% usage.
Roughly every 30secs or so, the memory usage for cmdagent would start to go up rapidly to over 450,000k and CPU usage to around 20-30%. It would sit like that for a few seconds and then return to normal levels. Sometimes, however, Utorrent would throw up the error saying that another application was accessing the download file.

I tried disabling the AV, D+ and FW in turn and the problem continued.

I just had to keep restarting the torrent every few minutes until the file had finished downloading.

I have since downloaded a torrent containg an .iso file and that downloaded just fine.

I can only conclude that CIS was scanning the .exe file in the downloaded torrent and confusing things.

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour and are there any settings which will overcome this problem?

I have just tried downloading the problem torrent on my laptop and the same thing happened.

I would like to try to solve your Issue as Quick as Possible

Is there any other security applications running while CIS is?

have you had this trouble before without CIS?

What Operating System Do You Have?

Thanks for picking this up Jacob.

As I stated in my oroiginal post, my operating system is XP Pro SP3 with all latest MS security updates installed.
The only security s/w installed is CIS 3.8.65951.477. I think the AV database version was 1080 when I had the problem.

The version of Utorrent is 1.8.2 which I think is the latest.

I have never noticed this problem before, but then it is fairly rare to download a torrent which contains a .exe file that hasn’t been wrapped in a zip or rar or iso package.

If it helps, I can PM the .torrent file to you or one of the devs. (It’s probably not wise to post it directly on this publc forum).

I could also try running it on a clean install of XP in a virtual PC with and without CIS installed to verify if it is CIS that’s causing the problem.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can try.
Thanks

PT

As I stated in my oroiginal post
I'm terribly sorry I Missed that information

I may ask another mod to help you.

Have you tried to add the folder in
Exclusions (Open Up CIS > AntiVirus > Scanner Settings > Exclusions > Add > (Try to add utorrent folder or the Download locations)
