Utorrent safe?

Hi.

I use a private tracker for most of my downloads. Because of technical issues the most recent version of Utorrent they allow is 1.8.3
Secunia tells me the program is patched (and at the tracker mentioned the mods tell me it’s safe), but at Utorrent forums they advice against older versions because of security flaws.

Can anyone throw some light?

Using an older version makes one more vulnerable in general.

When using a private tracker means that you are sharing with a limited group of people than that makes risk less.

Luckily CIS does catch buffer overflows (not all of them but a big part of them) so that reduces risk some more.
