User Interface Suggestions (was Where's the suggestion box?)

I am using the free Firewall product and have a few minor annoyances that I’d like to cover.

1) Whenever I open the Network Security Policy window, it automatically expands all entries. I’m getting more entries every day, and I find this behavior annoying. I created a keyboard macro to go through the list and collapse all the entries, which takes a few seconds to run, so a “Collapse/Expand All” button (or two) would be a welcome addition.

2) Whenever I make a change to a rule and click OK, upon return to the Network Security Policy window, it is scrolled back up to the very top. I’d much rather it stay on the rule I just edited.

3) Most frustrating for me is that after I’ve made changes to the rules, the Network Security Policy window lets me close it without saving all those changes! This dialog should either save the changes automatically as you go along, or it should warn you that your about to throw away all the work you’ve just done.

4) All dialogs should be keyboard-friendly, meaning that controls need to have accelerator keys. This makes creating macros much more reliable. For example, the Network Security Policy window has accelerator keys for moving rules (very useful). However, clicking Edit takes you to the Application Network Access Control window, wherein the “Use a Predefined Policy” and “Use a Custom Policy” do not have accelerator keys. Using a combination of tabs and arrow keys can achieve the desired result, but accelerator keys for these fields would be helpful.

Aside from those minor issues, I like the product. I was a heavy Kerio user until I realized that it was the cause of my occasional BSODs. I’ve only had one system freeze-up so far (and it’s certainly not clear that Comodo had anything to do with it). This product gives me the granularity I want with the stability I require.

If you double click the column heading, it will expand/collapse all entries. Not obvious, but it is there.

A warning dialogue would be nice.

I’m not sure if I should post here or start a new thread.

Anyway, overall the application is great, but the automatic resizing and resetting of columns in various windows REALLY annoys me. I prefer to have complete control of column sizes and window sizes and having to drag columns open or wait for a tooltip to pop up every time really narks me I’m afraid.

For example, in the Quarantine window, the Date column and the Location column (in fact all 3 columns) are always reset to the same equal length, regardless of the fact that the location is invariably going to require more space than the date! So in the Location column you’re invariably going to have a long list of truncated items. An option to turn off automatic resizing and remember column sizes and window sizes globally would be helpful.

Apart from that, I find the overall look of the interface to be very pleasing.
