I recently installed CIS and get this message whenever I attempt to do almost anything. It pops up when I try to update the Antivirus or if I try to do a virus scan. It also says “The Defense+ is not functioning properly!” I ran the diagnostic utility and it claims nothing is wrong with the install. This is the second time I’ve installed it now. After the first failure I uninstalled the program with the advanced settings for Revo Uninstaller. Then used Comodo’s reg cleaner program to fix my registry. Then re-installed CIS but got the exact same result. I downloaded the troubleshooting script from this forum and generated a report but I’m not sure what to do with the information it gave me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you use Windows Blinds or similar program to change the look of Windows?
Hi,
I have the same problem, and I’m not using WindowsBlinds. I only have Desktop Sidebar on Windows XP.
I’'ve noticed the problem when windows notified me the the virus definitions are not in order.
In Comodo main screen, I see that the virus definitions were updated on january 8, 2010, but when I click it for more details I get the ‘update failed…’ error message.
Do I need to reinstall?
Would appreciate any help…

What version of CIS are you on? What happens when you try updating again? How long do you have Desktop Sidebar installed? What happens when you temporarily disable it?
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
When I do the ‘Update virus defenitions’ also get this error message.
I’ve just noticed that a second computer on my home network that also has CIS has exactly the same problem, So I guess the desktop sidebar doesnt got anything to do with the problem.
Something similar to them both is the fact the the virus defenitions of both computers was updated on the 8/1/10 at 11 PM.
On first Comp (Win 7):
The CIS version: 3.13.121240.574
Virus Defenitions Signature Version: 3514
On Second Comp (Win XP):
The CIS version: 3.13.126709.581
Virus Defenitions Signature Version: 3482
Maybe there is something wrong with the last update?
See if updating the Win 7 computer to the latest version helps.
When needed download the latest bases.cav and deploy on both computers following Where can i download the latest full AV database?.
Hi Eric
The windows 7 system is already up to date.
But after I installed the new virus definitions, the problem was solved and I was able to run an update or a full computer scan.
Thank you for your help!
