Uninstallation of Comodo Firewall Personal

After testing Comodo Firewall Personal (latest version) I decided that it is unnecessarily complicated for my needs. So, I uninstalled it, or so I thought. The problem is that Windows Security Center still thinks that I have Comodo on my system (“Comodo Firewall Pro is currently on”). This means that I am not totally sure that Comodo is not inferring with the Free Zone Alarm I have installed. Any suggestions on how to completely remove Comodo from my system?

There are a number of things you can do.

Search your computer for folders named Comodo. You’ll get the following:
C:/Program Files/Comodo
C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Comodo
C:/Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Comodo

In order to remove CPF from Windows Security Center, you need to Reset / Reregister WMI.

Incidentally, CPF is not interfearing with ZoneAlarm it’s just that the wmi register need to be reset/reregistered so that it stops thinking cpf is installed.

Here’s How to do it:
Either download and try the following patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933062/en-us
Alternatively:

[Open the start menu, click Run and write cmd. Now in the command prompt window, write NET STOP WINMGMT /Y and then cd "%windir%\system32\wbem". Now write RD /S /Q “Repository” and finish with NET START WINMGMT /Y . Reboot your computer, and the problem should be solved.

There are other ways to Manually reset/register wmi but are more time consuming. The following link is in relation to WMI Diagnostics: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm

Hope this helps.

Eric

Keep in mind Zone Alarm free is no better then Windows Firewall. Zone Alarm Pro is good. Comodo is alittle confusing at first but give it time and you will learn.
