Uninstall Free Firewall

Hi
I am attempting to upgrade my Comodo Free Firewall V 5.12.256249.2599 to the 2013 version

Eveytime I attempt to uninstall of this OLD Firewall it appears to fail since the installer of the Upgrade tells me that the

Upgrade version will not install until I uninstall the OLD version.

I use ReVo Uninstaller Pro in both the Uninstaller and the Forced Uninstaller Modes while in the computer safe mode as an

uninstall method. I have also used the Comodo Uninstall Tool and the Unofficial Uninstall Tool with the same results.

I appreciate it any help

It sounds like you’ve already tried following the advice I give in this post, but just in case you haven’t already seen it please read through that post for suggestions.

So since uninstalling it failed did you try booting into safe mode and running the Uninstall Tool in Safe mode. Then restart and run it in normal mode. Then manually check the programs folder to see if any Comodo Firewall files are left. If so manually delete them. Then restart and see if you can now install CIS.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks.

Yes I have tried your technique and I have scrubbed the registry with JV Power tools. Tke only reg keys remaining are Comodo Legacy keys which cannot be deleted.
Mod edit: Fixed quote tags, Captainsticks.

Hi hawkeye32,
After uninstalling, check and remove the left over drivers from Windows Device Manager.
Please follow the instructions in the link below created by Eric.
Uninstalling some registry entry problem

I used Eric’s procedure and there are no CIS drivers

All drivers have been uninstalled and the problem still persists

Are there any Comodo files left in C:/ Program Files?

No files are left other than the COMODO legacy keys which cannot be deleted

May be there are left overs related to the installer of v5.

For problems with Windows installer you can use Windows Installer Clean Up utility. This tool cleans up all Windows installer related traces from your computer. It will allow you to run an (un)installer where it was getting blocked because it couldn’t find a needed file or says the products is already installed.

This tool does not uninstall a program.

Tried but tool did not show any leftovers

Hi hawkeye32,
This is a long shot now.
Do you still have the original installer for V 5.12.256249.2599?
If yes, you could try to re-install V5.12 and if it succeeds then after reboot try to uninstall it again with the programs uninstaller.

I have also used the Comodo Uninstall Tool and the Unofficial Uninstall Tool with the same results.
With the Comodo uninstall tool, do you mean the programs inbuilt uninstaller or am I missing something here? Thanks. Edit: Corrected spelling.

I have tried to reinstall the V5 install and receive the same msg that the Old comodo must be uninstalled before I can Install. Geekbuddies tried it also and had the same result.

I have used the Unofficial Uninstall Too posted in the Forum as well as the Add/Remove Panel

Hi hawkeye32,
Do you have any other Comodo products on your system?
Also I am not sure if it will help, but what is your operating system?

I have used the Unofficial Uninstall Too posted in the Forum as well as the Add/Remove Panel
Thanks I understand now.

Can you post a screenshot of the message you get when trying to install?

The Windows installer may sometimes stall when another program was not properly (un)installed. We might be looking at the situation where may another (Comodo) program that is or was installed is in the way.

I am using Win 7 64 bit. I am not using any other COMODO products. I searched with regedit, jvpowertoolds reg editor and reco uninstaller pro Forced Uninstall and COMODO is npt present.

I have also tried to install in Safe Mode to no avail.

Does COMOD install secret keys that do not have the name COMODO associated with them?

Als, are ther known conclicts…although I have tried an install after turning everything off in msconfig with no success.

Can you please post a screenshot of the installer alert? That way we see exactly what it says.

To remove the socalled Legacy Keys, which are otherwise hard to remove, open Device Manager from the command prompt using the following two commands:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
start devmgmt.msc

Set Device Manager to show hidden devices under menu option View. Then see if there are Comodo Internet Security related drivers left in non Plug and Play drivers. If so select the driver → click right → uninstall. Do this for all present CIS drivers. Do a reboot when it has been requested.

All the keys and drivers you mentioned had preciously been removed. The error I receive is message is attached

This is a tough cookie.

Make sure all Comodo Firewall related folders under User\AppData\Roaming , User\Appdata\Local are deleted and ProgramData.

Also try cleaning the registry with Eusing Free Registry Cleaner and Auslogics Registry Cleaner. These cleaners find a lot while staying on the safe side of things.

Edit. Also make sure that the installation folder of CFP is gone as well as the following files:
%windir%\system32\drivers\cmderd.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\cmdguard.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\cmdhlp.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\inspect.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\sfi.dat
%windir%\system32\guard32.dll (in case of 32 bits OS) or %windir%\system32\guard64.dll (in case of 64 bits OS)

Hi Eric

I clean the registry and eliminated the drivers but the error persists

Joe

Hi hawkeye32,
When using the unofficial Uninstaller Tool in Windows Safe Mode did you see activity from the uninstaller or did it just close?
