Unable to boot up after installing CPF

Hello, this is my first post so I hope it’s going to the right place.

For the past few days I have been trying to install CPF but to no avail. I downloaded the Beta version tonight and it does the same thing.

I am running Windows 2000 SP4. I have disabled ZoneAlarm free in the startup menu. Also run AVG and have disabled this also to no avail.

I can install the program and it does not come up with any problem messages. However, when the computer restarts, it goes through the Windows 2000 splash screen with the loading indicator, then a blue screen with the ‘Windows Loading’ dialog box and then just before the dialog box for “Loading Network Settings” usually appears, the screen turns to black with only a white mouse pointer and immediately I hear the harddrive shut down and the computer is frozen.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I have also installed CPF to a second offline computer with Windows 2000 install and it restarts ok.

Thanks
DaveP

Welcome at the comodo family (:HUG)

Please try to uninstall zonealarm first. CPF does not coexist peacefully with other firewalls. (it has no problem with the windows xp firewall)

Thanks for reply, pandlouk.

Have uninstalled zonealarm completely, cleaned registry, but still have the same problem, unfortunately.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling CPF. Probably this will fix it.

Hey Pan,

No go.
Clean install of Win2K - rebooted PC boots OK.
Install SP4 - rebooted PC boots OK.
Install CPF (release version) - rebooted to blue screen (not a BSOD) with white mouse pointer and system hung.

Same symptoms as DaveP below.

I’ll email this to support.

cheers,

I think this is the third or fourth thread that I read problems with CPF causing BSOD on Windows 2000 SP4. There seems to be something seriouly wrong.
