TrustConnect Free - can't connect at all

I cannot connect to any available network, not even my own home network. The log says the following:

Help needed urgently. I’ve changed the compatability of the trustconnect.exe and trustconnectGUI.exe programs to Vista Service Pack 2, and have them both run as administrator. I’ve tried disabling and then enabling TAP-Win32 Adapter V9. In network connections there is a message that this adapter has a network cable unplugged, but isn’t it only a virutal adapter? I don’t really understand VPN, never having used it before.

It can be authorization issue or some other problems with your account.

I recommend you to contact Comodo Support

I have contacted support but their answers are not very helpful:

“You had a trouble with your DNS server or internet connection.”
“It’s possibly you use some firewall with strict policy, please check configuration.”

I am not an expert. I’ve asked them to explain what I should do about my DNS server. There is no problem with my normal internet connection - cable modem connected to wireless router. Do they mean the TrustConnect connection?

I am using the Comodo Firewall. Port 443 is not blocked. TrustConnect.exe and TrustConnectGUI.exe are permitted programs. What other configutration might I need to check?

As I am not an expert I need a specific series of steps to take to attempt to remedy this.

@alanbo

Hi,
I’ve got a similar problem (error message).
Did you find a solution?

Hi Flummexed - sorry for the delay in replying, but I 've had massive problems - repair intallation and clean installation of OS.

What I didn’t understand at first was that TrustConnect, or any VPN uses your usual network to connect securely - it kind of piggy backs on it. The confusion is also because the unidentified public network which appears in Network and Sharing Centre shows as unconnected. This flummoxed even Comodo support. I was connecting all along, without realising. The way to test is to connect normally without TrustConnect and then go to whatismyip.com to see what your IP is and from there you can click the link on the left hand side to IP WHOIS Lookup to find out who you are connecting to.

Then connect to TrustConnect, you should get the unidentified public network showing as unconnected. Then repeat the above and you should see that your IP has changed and the Comodo server should come up when you click IP WHOIS Lookup.

Hope this help cones in time.

Alan
