Thunderbird email connects without CPF intervention !

I am using CPF ver. 2.3.5.62.

Each network application that I opened after installing CPF caused the Application Monitor to pop-up and request permission except for Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.5.

When I opened Thunderbird, I was able to connect to my mail server without interruption by CPF. Thunderbird isn’t listed in the “Application Control Rules” list! I did the “Scan for known Applications” wizard, but Thunderbird still isn’t shown on my Application Control Rules list.

Can anyone explain this? I am not feeling 100% firewalled at the moment.
???

Thanks.

I saw the exact same thing with Firefox…it started with no questions asked and was not in my application monitor list. After poking around a bit I found that Firefox is “certified as safe” by Comodo and thus no alerts will be shown…IF…you have a check in the “Advanced”, “Miscellaneous”, “Do not show any alerts for the applications certified by Comodo” box. When I unchecked the box, and restarted Firefox I was prompted with an alert (which stated that it was a safe application) and it then was listed in the application monitor list.

You are absolutely correct ! Thanks so much.

Once I unchecked the box (it’s in “Advanced > Miscellaneous …Configure” - 2nd check box from the top), Thunderbird pop-up alerts occurred when I restarted the firewall and opened the app. And, it’s now listed in the Application Monitor list.

This is an obscure GUI issue that will certainly cause headaches for other users. Comodo, please rethink how this feature is implemented in future versions.

we are open to suggestions.
Pls suggest a way of resolving this.

OK Melih - since you asked …

How about a dialog box that opens during an initial installation wizard offering the user the choice to either see (or not see) alerts for “certified safe” applications? And a hint in this same dialog box indicating that this option can be changed later, and how.

That’s my 2 cents …

Thank you for a terrific product. Your committment to continuous improvement by engaging directly with users is both self-evident and admirable.

I think this is a good idea.
can you pls put it in the wish list for cpf.
thank you.

Hi, Melih

I think this is a good idea.
It is what OutPost does on installation. ???

They were a good competitor for our previous versions of CPF (:KWL)

No, they were not, atleast as long as Outpost keeps crashing computers with dual core or HT-processors. I have recently switched from my paid Outpost subscription and instead embraced Comodo, i havent seen one single crash since that. Your firewall rules OK! (:CLP)

What make of Processor are you talking about?.

I have been using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ for well over a year, on both x32 and x64 OS both Windows and Linux [I have 8 Pata removable HDD and 4 Internal Sata3 HDD on this system, and the OS that have [and have had] OutPost installed on have never crashed.

I am only giving credit where i think credit is due.
