The effect on SecureEmail when fixing 'Generic Host Process for Win32 Services'

The effect on SecureEmail when fixing (see specifics *) ‘Generic Host Process for Win32 Services’ with the following method…

  • …\TMP\WERc4af.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp

  • …\TMP\WERc4af.dir00\appcompat.txt

  • szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180 szModName : ssdpsrv.dll

  • szModVer : 5.1.2600.2180 offset : 0000884a

  • "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close.

  • We are sorry for the inconvenience."

WIN32 Fix method applied:

Start>run type in cmd hit enter.
From the command prompt type netsh hit enter…
… type in winsock hit enter…
… type in reset hit enter.
Return to command line prompt, Type EXIT, hit enter or just close ‘cmd’…
Then reboot the PC.

In so correcting the XP WIN32 issue the ‘fix applied’…

… Results in SecureEmail ‘Winsock’ appearing to be effected which also prevents the display of SecureEmail notification pop-ups.

Other less obvious and more technical matters may have also arisen within SecureEmail from the non-COMODO Windows XP WIN32 issue/fix.

Resolution to SecureEmail loss of functionality following the application of the WIN32 fix was to uninstall SecureEmail, reboot, and then reinstall SecureEmail which appears to reestablish SecureEmail’s winsock settings.

It is understood and a given that SecureEmail is in beta. This post is purely an advisory to interested parties only.
