"System freeze" on W2k and W2k Server after installation

Hi all!

I am new to this forum, and the reason I found Comodo is that I was in the process to update my home server HW and also reinstalling the server. As I am running W2k Server on the machine, there is no other good free antivirus solution to use, so I thought I would give Comodo a try.

First of all, I tried to install Comodo on a client PC running standard W2k, but I experienced the “system freeze” behaviour reported in some threads on this forum. The system is not usable at all but it is running. I thought it could be due to leftovers from Norton AV causing the behaviour, but I couldn’t make it work so Comodo is uninstalled again.

Then, I installed Comodo on my fresh W2k Server installation, but I experienced the same behaviour on this machine.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a solution?

I am using version 1.1.

I would uninstall the version you have and install the latest beta we have. Its much more stable and has HIPS built in.

Thanks for the answer. I thought that I got the latest beta when downloading a couple of days ago… Now I have seen the other thread about version 2.0.5.7 and I will give that version a try.

ok great.
pls report back any problems/issues you might have…

thanks

How does one install the beta when you can’t do anything on your box?

Kevin

Hi KevinE,

If your system constantly freezes with the old beta, please follow these steps to uninstall it and install the latest available version:

  1. Reboot your system in the safe mode.
  2. Right-click “My Computer” and select “Manage”. Choose “Computer Management->Services and Application->Services” item in the left-side tree.
  3. Find “Comodo Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Service” in the list and double-click it. Select “Disabled” in the “Startup type” combo. This will prevent On-Access service from being started on the next bootup.
  4. Restart your PC in a normal mode and uninstall CAVS.
  5. Install the latest version of CAVS available for download.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Alex.
