Symantec says you should pay for your security! and I say....

Its 2011…2012 in a day or 2, checkout the 2012 Norton products & see the improvement.

it still allows infection of the malware it cannot recognize!

And CIS allows infection of the malware it can recognize (trusted vendor & sandbox bypassed)

Melih, I find CIS the best protection free/paid.

What I meant was, as you know there is no 100% security, but I find Norton really excellent protection for home users & average & novices. Definitely it will miss something like others & every security products out there but it still provides excellent security thorugh its layered approach with no popup hassles for novices & average especially home users. Offcoz its possible to bypass norton but not that easy.

Whatever Norton say about free products may be wrong but the product is good for majority of users.

But still I would like you to know that CIS is better & excellent compared to Norton or any but at the same time
comparison of protection + usability, I find Norton is little better for average users, see my words, I find it little better for average users. Others may have different opinion.

the chances of getting infected from an unknown malware is much higher than a trusted vendor.

Let’s not forget about the mistakes made by a novice user…all the time he is forced to answer the popups…

with automatic sandboxing, files are automatically sandboxed without asking the user.

Obviously Comodo users are managing to use CIS hence 96% of them love Comodo vs 85% who hate Symantec

all these novice user will press this and that argument is down the drain! CIS has proven itself!

I am not only an end-user of CIS, but I am also an Administrator (CIS and ESM 1.6) and dont remember the last time I saw a pop-up. And if I did, was not a big deal because I dont remember that time. 8)

Depends on what kind of software you use on your system, what purpose you use your system for.

If you mostly use all the standard programs with digi signs from trusted vendors, you won’t get any for sure.

For us, we most of the time use local software and freeware/open source programs, most of which do not have digi signs, besides, most of them do not work with sandbox either…

I always prefer to switch off sandbox when I suggest any of my friends to use CIS, although it reduces security by a bit, it keeps me alive, otherwise they would have killed me already for suggesting CIS.

Yes I totally agree.

But the chances with Norton are less. The Nortons layered security for everyday use & for average & novices & without any hassles & effective is very good.

With CIS the chances of infection is very very less to near complete safe. But for everyday use & for average & novices there are still few hassles. No doubt on effectiveness as I had already mentioned & I always say from security point of view nothing free/paid can beat CIS, its hands down winner.

And I believe CIS 6 with many upcoming excellent features will definitely make it easy for majority of users i.e average & novices.

But at the end of the day it still is the question of: Should we believe Symantec and pay $70 $80 for an AntiVirus product that will allow infection for malware it cannot recognize or use Comodo for free and enjoy security?

I believe that what CIS could improve on is compatibility of the sandbox. Imagine how incredible CIS would be if almost any program could run in the sandbox without any problems, while at the same time not being able to harm the computer. Then it would be usable for even the most novice users.

If the need to remove unknown programs from the sandbox in order to get them to run was removed, then I truly believe that CIS would be nearly perfect.

What do you think?

That is great confirmation that Comodo is winning.

Personally speaking, I think different companies have their own pros and cons. I read numerous reviews comparing CIS and avast. They all say that avast is better than CIS esp in terms of repairing infections. Currently I am using avast free edition and Comodo firewall. And I think this combination is good as no av could be 100% proof.

Yeah, that’s a dream…

That would be great…

are also very intelligent to say these things because Symantec buying PCTools which distributes part of its product for free, then considering that PCTools shares part of the databases in Norton Antivirus.
What should I think about the PCTools? and Norton?

that Symantec, like Comodo, allows free use (with very few conditions) of a particular product as part of their business model. If you’re committed to not paying, choose the one you prefer and be happy.

Pay for what? For this protection?!!

No way!

Well as a regular homeuser I dont want to pay for security if I can get it for free…it is as simple as that!
A couple of years a go I use to pay for security from companies like Symantec,Mcafee, etc.
And a year a go I change to a combo of free security products…Avg,Avira Avast,Zonealarm etc
And to day im running Comodo IS…and im very happy about the change…it covers my needs and It gives me a calm feeling of security…I am protected for free!
