Still not happy with Comodo at version 5...

I just tried out version 5.3.174622.1216, previously tried out version 4.
There are some improvements, but unfortunately the auto rules are still in effect. In all reality, they are based on the verified programs section in the Defence+ settings.
I don’t used that on my desktop PC, and the fact remains that I consider that I am between an advanced and expert user, and the restriction of fallowing those rules in the entire program is a security risk in my opinion.
Defence+ (from my understanding) is meant to prevent malware and allow a sandbox interface for programs that are unknown to prevent an infection.
That works well with a firewall, but they should NEVER share rules.
In addition, there should be a way to simply completely disable the rules or completely remove them.
No matter what I do, I am stuck with predefined rules, and it’s no good to me.

The best option to me is to add an option during the setup : Advanced and Basic. Basic is what is already in place, and advanced would be a clean slate, where there are no predefined rules and all configuration will act like Comodo 3.14.129887.586

I’m really sorry that you’re not happy with comodo version 5. I had to spend lots of time to work with the settings till I got the right config that worked for me.

I am as well. I used Comodo during version 1, 2 and 3. After that, I have had issues with it’s policy’s and rule shearing.
I was real excited when 4 was announced and released, until I installed it.
With 5, I unfortunately got what I expected.

1031982- Unfortunately CIS has not been developed specifically with your exact personal preferences in mind. Fortunately you have the option to run any version of CIS that best suits your preferences.

I’m a newb to Comodo, but I don’t think you have to use the predefined rules.
Could you explain why?

Correct BoredNow,
You can customize the predefined rules; and add your own!

CIS > Defense+ > Computer Security Policy > Predefined Rules (You can add/edit etc)
CIS > Firewall > Network Security Policy > Predefined Rules (You can add/edit etc)

Hope this helps
Jake

And in the Firewall, you can rightclick a program and select ‘edit’ and ‘use a custom policy’.

What do you mean with "they should never share rules"? I don't what you are referring to.

I think you need to poke around more and learn how to configure it to your liking. I assume by “verified programs” you mean the whitelist. You don’t have to use the whitelist nor do you have to use the auto-“sandbox” at all. Also, Defence+ and the firewall do not share rules. Anything Trusted in Defence+ does not get to access the network automatically (unless you have “Create rules for safe applications” checked).

The issue being that I did disable Whitelist usage.
I don’t use Defence+, and I checked all available settings and found nothing worked in terms of not using the Whitelist.
This includes doing a reboot after each change, and running the uninstall cleanup.

Not to use the whitelist you need to enter paranoid mode; thus it will ask you what to do always;

Thope this helps

They really have to improve whitelisting and antivirus. It’s still sandboxing an application that i’ve submitted months ago.

if that application is still being developed " not discontinued " then go and ask them to whitelist it. A tremendous amount of files they recieve in every single hour, be easy on them, they are not robots >:-D

Did you submit through the CIS or send it through their submit link… I tend to find that all my FP’s or malware that I find is looked into and sorted within a few hours. They give Priority to those who submit via their website and upload it…

Although I wish they would improve the time it takes to look into those who submit the file from within CIS itself.
