I didn’t know where to post this, so if it’s in the wrong forum you can move it. My son has an older system that can’t seem to handle Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware. Because it is older he tries to keep it clean and running smoother, by defragging, Adaware, cleaning the registry etc…Do you know of another program that he could use which wouldn’t be taxing on his system?
I think he needs another PC, cos the last version of Lavasoft ad-aware is very light.
Try prevx very light on system and a great antimalware program.not sure which version of windows your runnin?i dont think adaware is very good anyhow(imo)

Not sure of your Windows system but we have a Windows ME system running with only 120M.
We use :-
Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5
Avast!4.8 for anti-malware.
Spybot 1.6.2 with SDHelper but not Teatimer.
SpywareBlaster 4.1
WinPatrol 15.9.2008.5
SuperAntiSpyware 4.25.1014 (free edition) for spyware scans
Spybot and SAS are slow to update but they work.

For such PC install xUbuntu http://www.xubuntu.org/
Believe me it will be flying. (faster then Vista for sure :D)
Some even installing Ubuntu but try x-one first.
All free. The number of Applications available from the box and quality of those is excellent.
Practically no security issues (well…)
if you have broadband it may take you 10-15 min (depends) torrent download if 670MB ISO and then like 20 min Installation. All hardware will be recognized. You will be on-line with Firefox in no time
Seriously, at least don’t though it away and try later.
I did dual boot on 2 similar old PCs with win2000 and XP Home.
After 2 weeks of comparing, Windows was gone - more space for xUbuntu.

I think using some portable software is the way to go. It’s less taxing
For burning audio-video-data cd’s / dvd’s and images(like.iso)

I’d recommend portable ccleaner or maybe (comodo system cleaner)
